@magnoliamama42: We found out she needed glasses because one of her eyes started turning in. It's called accommodative estropia - basically her eyes were correcting for her nearsightedness. She got glasses and has to wear a patch over her stronger eye for an hour a day.

Wish I would have known about this program a few months ago. :( I am severely nearsighted. LO inherited my short legs, so I'm assuming she's inherited other less favorable traits as well!

Has anyone ever had their LO's eye sight tested at pediatric well visits or in school? LO is 15 months. @My Only Sunshine: How did you know your daughter needed glasses?

That's really awesome, thank you for sharing. We had an exam done for my daughter when we had her tear duct probed but it's good to have an option for the next baby.

@peachykeen: Great idea to share this! My daughter got glasses at 13 months so I'm so glad to see someone post about infant vision screening.

Thanks for this info! What a great program. I had no idea it existed. I found a provider close to me and am going to call tomorrow for an appointment. Thanks again!

(Another post about vision made me think of this program and I wanted to share for anyone with babies 6-12 months)

My sister is an optometrist and told us about the Infant See program back when LO was ~10 months. We were able to take her to a local participating eye doctor for a FREE full eye exam before she turned 1 just to make sure everything was okay (it was). It's not something we would have done otherwise, but since it was free and my sister recommended it, we decided to take advantage of it.

Here's the info and a list of participating eye doctors for anyone interested - I believe it's a nationwide program:
