I found this chart helpful:

Thanks everyone! So no one knows what is 'normal' as far as sleep at this age? I just have no idea how much he's supposed to eat, how often and then what I can expect as far as sleep. I feel like the only people who speak out about infant sleep are those whose kids started STTN super early, so that's all I have for a reference.

Sounds like the six week growth spurt to me! Give it a couple days...I bet he'll go back to his old schedule :)

I agree with growth spurt. One of the many things I learned as a new parent is once you get into a routine, a new phase starts. You're doing great!

No real advice, but just to give you ome less thimg to worry about, i do think sleep begets sleep at that age, so I wouldn't worry about keeping him awake during the day. Just be sure to go outside and get fresh air and daylight, etc...

At this age it's probably related to a growth spurt. How often is he eating during the day? I know feeding my LO consistently every 2-3 hours during the day helped her sleep better at night even if it meant waking her up during the day. Good luck!

@Modern Daisy: Have you tried to feed more throughout the day? You reference the final bottle before bed but I found with my LO that is was about total daily oz. She HAD to have 25 oz (BM) if I wanted her to 'STTN'. On days where she ate less, she was up more. Then again, it could be 15 million other things so I'll just hope that your LO gets back to sleeping longer so momma can as well!

Most of what I've read has said that many people incorrectly think that a baby's sleep will go from 1-2 hour stretches to 3-4 hours stretches to 5-6 hours stretches, and so on. But the reality is that there are many phases in which sleep will decrease for a period of time, then increase again. It's totally normal and you'll discover that growth spurts can kick your butt. Just remember its all a phase and that you'll sleep again soon!

There is a really good chart floating around about what you can expect for awake times and such, I got it from GeekinHeels, but I don't have it anymore. Someone else has to have it!

My kid did not sleep well at 5 weeks! He was also up crying to be fed throughout the night. Things got more predictable closer to the 2 month mark. We just went through an awful growth spurt at 12 weeks where he regressed, and did the same thing. Now at 13 weeks he's sleeping a lot better. Hang in there, it will get better. <3

5 weeks is a wonder week, then there is a 6 week growth spurt. Could be either of those. I remember 5
Weeks we had some difficult moments for sure.

My son is 5 weeks old and just in the last 48 hours decreased his 3-4 hour sleep stretches to 1-2 hours, max. I know the most likely reason is that he isn't eating enough, but trust me - we do everything possible to get him to finish his bottle or even eat more before letting him to down. Ultimately it doesn't matter how much he eats though, if he eats 2 ounces or 6 he will still wake up an hour or two after eating - SCREAMING until we feed him again.

He has always screamed upon waking until we give him food, so nothing new there, but does anyone know why his sleep stretches might have decreased so much? I thought they were supposed to increase! We haven't done anything differently, he sleeps in his crib in his room just like he did from the beginning and we have a bedtime routine at the same time every night. We have always been good about waking him during the day so he'll sleep better at night, but now he doesn't even want to sleep during the day anymore either.

I guess I'm wondering - what is normal at this age? I've read a couple of baby books, but none of them say what to expect daytime or nighttime as far as infant sleep, they only talk about 6 month + sleep habits.
