@NaturallyCathy: it will stay on indefinitely on the setting we use. Yes, it has a timer, but we never use it. It really has come in helpful for those occasional nights when he would not sleep. This got him to sleep, I could be nearby sleeping and knew it would stay on!

It is big, it takes up about 3 feet in length and 2 feet width, but for us it is a must have to preserve our sanity. Thankfully it holds up to 30 pounds, and still works great at 22 pounds. The music and sounds are high quality, he falls asleep so fast when the music is on!

The other one I looked at was the Snugabunny, but hated how it looked, loved the fabric for this one, and am still happy with our decision a year later.

PS- please excuse my messy desk in the background!

@lemondrop: Having looked at it on TRU.com, does it really only stay on for thirty minutes? Or can you have it on for longer if you want to?

Well I know more than once that swing actually gave me a few hours sleep when Henry was still just a tiny thing. He would be crying and I would be crying and we'd put him in the swing - hit go, and after fifteen minutes, the crying would stop because he was asleep! I remember a few times actually putting him it in the middle of the night, waiting half an hour, then getting him out of the swing to put him back in the bassinet so I could go back to sleep. I know with juggling a one year old that can run circles around me and a new infant is going to be difficult and I think a good swing could probably be a sanity saver.

I love our Graco Capri swing- it plugs in, plays music, and we still use it at 12 months. Best swing ever!

@rachiecakes: That was actually one of the styles I was considering! Not that design specifically, but the fold up, out of the way type and I liked that it had two different heights. Did you use both heights or did you just stick with one? And it's good to know that it's lasted so long :) Maybe if one of those works out for us, we'll keep it for the next LO (if there is a next LO after this one).

We bought one similar to this.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/17747582?adid=22222222227014737608&wmlspartner=wlpa&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=&wl3=21486607510&wl4=&wl5=pla&veh=sem

I live in a tiny space (700sf) and didn't want any huge gear. This swing folds up nicely and doesn't take up too much space when it's open either. I gave it to a friend when DS was done and she was just telling me this morning how great it's been for her LO.

As AutumnLove reminded me, BRU & TRU are doing their great Trade-In Event. Having never participated in this event, I'm not sure what to expect but as I understand it you take your old gear in and they give you 25% off the purchase of a new piece of gear. Even if you don't trade something in, you get 15% off.

I have an old swing that my MIL bought for our first son last year at a consignment store. While we did use it after he turned a month old, I always hated the printed design on it and the mobile never worked properly - which is probably why it was so cheap at the consignment shop. It was a Fisher Price Cradle 'n Swing with bugs and butterflies on it and whenever the sound was turned on with the mobile, even with fresh batteries the sound was... demonic.

Anyways, we have another LO due in March and I want a new swing. The only problem is that we don't have as much room for the swing as we did the first time around. I mean, I know if we had to we could go with the same model - the Cradle 'n Swing - but it took up a lot of floor space and we had to be careful of having stuff around it or it'd hit it.

So does anyone have any suggestions for different types of swings available? I mean, has anyone had any experience with any of the portable swings or Graco swings or smaller Fisher-Price swings? I'd love a little more direction in this.
