I wouldn't be thrilled about it, but seven weeks will be okay. My DD currently spends 1.5-2 hours in the car every day just to/from daycare and I don't love that she is having to do that, but it's temporary and she usually sleeps for a lot of it. My primary concern is the safety issue, since time spent in a car is typically the most dangerous part of anybody's day.

I think it's fine since the total time is broken up in chunks of time.

I would be fine with that, especially in the short-term. We definitely had many times when DD has spent a good amount of time in her car seat (either in the car or snapped into the stroller).

I'd be OK with it for such a short time, but would not be happy as a long term thing.

I'm pretty sure my kids spent this much time in car seats as infants because we took long walks and they were in the seats snapped into the strollers.

That's a lot of running around though... but at that age many babies don't have a very rigid schedule anyway. As long as he's getting plenty of attention other than all that driving around, it's probably fine, especially for the short term.

I'd be okay with it for the short-term. Especially if you know your LO seems comfy/naps well in the car, I think it sounds like a good solution. At that age, my DD was often in a RnP or something similar for a large part of the day...and while I know that's a little roomier/more comfy, I think it's relatively comfortable.

If you feel good about the arrangement with your friend, and you know it'll only be for a couple of months, I'd go for it.

Damn, that's a lot of time in the car/car seat. It would definitely make me uncomfortable. If this was your long term child care, I'd definitely look for other options, but because it's short term maybe I'd be ok with it? I would just hate the idea on my LO spending 1/2 their day in the car or getting ready to get in the car. I honestly still think I'd explore other options...

Eta: and I say this as a mom to a 2.5 yo and 4 month old, so I don't think it's a silly first time mom thing at all.

It wouldn't concern me. With a busy older brother, sometimes I feel like my infant spends all day in her car seat on weekends!

I don't think it's a big concern. Many parents intentionally put their newborn/very young babies in their car seats for naps! Seems like yours is one of those that naps well in the car seat anyway, so I don't think it's a big deal, especially since it's broken up into chunks. don't worry about it!

Since my mat leave is up 7 weeks before my summer break, I had to find short term care for my LO who will be 2.5-4mo old. A SAHM friend offered to take care of him. It is a great arrangement for several reasons - similar personalities, great price, cloth diapered her kids so fine with mine, she has only one other kid in the morning and none in the afternoon, etc.

We already agreed to this situation and it's about 5 weeks away. However, there was a slight change to her schedule and now I'm getting slightly uncomfy about how much time LO will be in the car/ car seat, and how difficult the daily schedule is. Am I being a neurotic FTM here?

Daily time in car, all times roundtrip:
40 min childcare dropoff/pickup (obvi unavoidable)
45 min school dropoff
45 min kindergarten dropoff
Two times a week: 45 min school pickup + appts for her kids (OT, vision therapy)
Once a week: kinder sports, 40 min roundtrip

Total time: 2hr 10 min-3h in car, daily; split into 40-45min chunks

Pickup will be different every day. Monday and Wednesday would be 4pm at her house, Tuesday and Friday she is bringing him to DHs work at 245, and Thursday he is being picked up at another friends house at 245 bc she volunteers at her kids school on Thursday afternoons so LO is being watched by a different friend for that time.

Other things to consider: he naps GREAT in the car seat, we can avoid carseat time on the weekday evenings, she prefers to babywear instead of use a stroller, and it's only 7 weeks.

Like isaid, does it sound like a silly FTM concern or a legit concern?
