We do the upside down high chair or put in a booth. I will wear her too if she gets fussy.

We would use an upside down high chair or a sling. If that wasn't an option, we'd put the carseat in the booth with us.

I always take the stroller in and leave the baby in there! I've seen people do the upside down high chair but we've never done it. I usually need to rock the baby so the stroller is handy!

I have once. It didn't seem all that sturdy but I sort of put it against my chair and the table too and it was fine. I've also used those sling things they provide (don't like those either.) I've put it in the booth next to us. I've put the stroller next to the table (like this one the best so I could rock her in the stroller.) I never babywore, it would be hard to eat...

Chinese restaurants don't usually have booths so we get 2 chairs and put them next to each other but create an L shape with the seat backs. Then wedge the car seat between the table and the chair. It is reasonably secure especially if the car seat is not on a walkway.

We just need to make sure that the waiters stay far away from the car seat in case something gets dropped accidentally.

I see that and it freaks me the heck out. I always just babywore, or my husband would hold her in his arms or his lap. I never really took the carseat out of the car - it was so bulky.

@rrachael: We have the K'tan (which I use) and the Beco Butterfly (which my husband uses). Wearing the baby isn't foolproof, but it has worked much more often than it hasn't. We've had one time out of 10+ when my husband had to get up and walk around due to our kid being awake and fussy -- and, of course, it was last night!.

We just make sure to walk enough before we sit down for him to knock out. That generally buys us about 45-60 minutes. My husband also thinks it is helpful to lean back in the seat.

This might be an age thing, too. Our baby is 11 weeks old. I imagine it might become more complicated as he gets older.

We took DS to a restaurant for the first time today and we just put him on the ground in his car seat. We were on the patio.

When I worked in restaurants, we usually did the upside down high chair, but now that we have a LO on the way, I think I'd be worried about the safety. Most family-friendly restaurants have slings now though.

Oh my GOD that is GENIUS.

We would just ask for a table (instead of a booth) and put the carseat on a chair.

If a restaurant has a sling, we'll use that ... otherwise we put her carseat in the booth with us .... or bring her stroller in! it takes up just as much aisle space as a sling would.

@mole: I prefer to wear DD when we're out, but she doesn't really tollerate it is very long while I'm sitting .... does your LO stay asleep even when you're sitting? What carrier do you use? {I have an ergo and mei tai}

places we went to either had the slings for the carriers or we put it on the table or next to us in a booth. We tried the upside down high chair once but it felt really insecure so we didn't do it.

We often walk to restaurants, so we just baby wear! Otherwise, we try to ask for a booth to put the carseat in; if that isn't an option, we have done the upside down high chair trick if it feels secure enough.

I did notice that a couple of chains around us (including Islands) now have holders that are specifically designed to hold carseats!

I have never heard of or seen the upside down high chair! We would either put her car seat on a chair or in the booth, making sure it was secure. Or we would place it on the floor.

When you bring your LO (who is not able to sit up yet) to a restaurant, do you put the car seat on top of an upside down high chair? I read that this is unsafe but I see parents do it all the time. If you don't put the car seat on top of high chair then where would you put it? I'm so clueless!
