Plain old infertile myself. I have never been pregnant.

I would agree that being IF and having no children is different than being IF and having a child (no matter how that first child was conceived), but that said both are surely just as hard to bear.

I'm with you that the bigger difference is whether you have a LO or not, instead of whether you used drugs the first time or not.

I used clomid for #1 and will be getting help with #2 soon, but I see it as secondary because they told me there was a chance carrying #1 to term would fix our unexplained issues. no such luck. plain old infertile here too.

@sarac: thanks for posting this. I was curious about what "secondary" consisted of, but for some reason never looked into it.

My doctor diagnosed me with secondary IF after two miscarriages, even though those were my first two pregnancies. When I asked why secondary, they told me that secondary means you have been pregnant before, even if you didn't carry to term.

Ooops according to this definition -

Here's the definition from the RESOLVE site: "Secondary infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant, or to carry a pregnancy to term, following the birth of one or more biological children. The birth of the first child does not involve any assisted reproductive technologies or fertility medications."

I'm just plain old infertile! Since I used drugs to make my first baby. Whatever - I'm still glad to have a place to put my posts about not being pregnant. I do think that it makes a difference (to some people, at least!), whether you have a baby already.
