@sweetooth... thank you so much for the success stories! We just sent in our application for the First Steps program and are crossing our crossables for a good discount. With no insurance coverage for infertility, plus all of our savings having been depleted because my dad fell ill (we are his caretakers right now), we just don't have a lot of extra money for our cycles right now :( We are going to attempt one more IUI with clomid this cycle... Still waiting for AF to show up now. If this clomid/ovidrel/IUI is a bust, we will move on up to the Follistim pen if we are offered a discount from First Steps. If no discount, we will discuss with our RE and decide on the most affordable med that will still work for us.

I LOVE these message boards! I do a lot more reading than posting, but decided to get the Gold membership, since I can definitely see myself getting a lot of support here from people in similar situations. I have been a message board "lurker" for a long time, and just never set up an account. Once I found Hellobee though, I knew this could be a good home for me while going through IF and hopefully, someday, pregnancy. I don't see the mommy judgement that I see so often on other boards (which shall remain nameless, ha) and there is just a nice, comfy supportive vibe here. I am looking forward to getting to know you all a little bit better. Only thing I wish there was here would be signatures- so I can keep up with names and stories!

@MrsRice: Hello there and welcome! I'm glad you found Hellobee. It's been such a great place for support while dealing with infertility (and beyond!).

I never had more than one good follicle while on Clomid. And then I was lucky to get to two maybe once when I did injectibles/IUI. I am a success story though - 2x. My first baby was an IUI/injectibles success, and now I'm 21 weeks with my second baby after returning to the same protocol.

We did Bravelle with IUI for baby #1. And Gonal-F with IUI for baby #2. Gonal-F was SOOOO much easier. We purchased through Freedom Fertility meds and only have good things to say about their customer service. Which is a HUGE consideration when dealing with the stress of all of this.

Lots of luck to you! :goodluck:

Thank you for making me feel better about the one follicle! I just know that he made a bit of a disappointed face- I think he was hoping for 2-3. Just judging from past conversations with him. As far as the multiples, we have discussed this at length with our doctor- and we personally are completely open to twins, triplets, even quads. We have a great support system, and my children are older so they are more helpful. I guess I am saying that the thought of multiples does not scare us- we are in the boat of whatever god gives, we will accept wholeheartedly. I did not know that about Jon and Kate- though I have not really followed their story- something about her really irks me. haha.

One good follicle is not a bad thing at all - in fact, one decent mature follicle is better than 2-3 dodgy ones. xx

Maybe it was the size of the follow that he didn't love. It's better to just have one. I would ask about when they would cancel your cycle of you make too many because it's harder to regulate multiples with an Iui. IUI plus stims is how Kate had her sextuplets.

@MrsRice: My first IUI cycle was with gonal f because I had taken clomid with obgyn and no pregnancy
I started with 75ml every night and was monitored every other day. I ended up having almost over 10 mature follicles sooo the IUI was canceled!

I got my meds through freedom pharmacy

I can't answer most of those questions, but my cousin was supposed to do IUI with injectables this cycle. But her body responded so well that she had too many follicles (6, I think) and the doctors cancelled the IUI. They're doing TI instead.

I did IUI with injectable Menopur. Unfortunately it wasn't successful for me, but IVF was :). I was able to get some of my medicine covered through insurance so I had to use their specialty pharmacy. I think I have heard Freedom Pharmacy has good pricing. Best of luck!!!

Thank you for the links! It is nice to hear that one follicle is normal! My doctor seemed a little less than impressed when he saw the one follie- he didn't say so out loud, but I think he was hoping for more than one to mature. Before the u/s he did say that having more than one would be best for us because of DH's sperm. I guess it is just that, after all this time, I really want this to work. Not to mention our lack of having a lot of expendable money set aside just for treatments. It would be awesome to be able to do one more IUI and have it work. I am going to read through those links now!

I think it's pretty normal to only produce one egg with Clomid. Some may have 2 or 3, but rarely more than that. Usually the purpose of Clomid is not to produce more follicles, but to improve the quality of the egg or to have a effect to improve the luteual phase. I didn't use injectibles with IUI so I can't speak to that, but I think it is also for egg quality and to produce a few more, but they still don't want to produce any more than 3 or 4 in the off chance that they all fertilize.

Here's a few threads about purchasing meds:

I thought about asking this in my intro thread, but thought I may get a better response if I made a new one. I hope that is okay- I am not well-versed on message board etiquette!

With our IUI, I was on clomid and only produced one mature follicle. I feel like that would probably be a big reason for the cycle to not be successful. DH and I are considering moving on to what my RE called "Ovarian Superstimulation" with injectable meds and IUI for our next cycle, so we can hopefully have a better shot of this finally working for us.

So, I guess my questions are...

What med protocol did you follow if you have gone through a "super-stim" cycle with injectables?

Where did you purchase your meds? Any cost-saving tips?

How many mature follicles did you produce?

Was it successful?

Thank you!
