No luck with the IUI's, but Follistim worked wonders for our IVF cycle...we had 32 follies at our retrieval!

@Kelli_Deluxe: I did 2 IUI's with Clomid and then my third IUI was with injectibles. And now I have a little 4 month old baby boy from our successful 3rd IUI. The difference for me with injectibles was the ability to adjust the meds as we went along. Really fine tuning the results that would show up in my monitoring. It felt like there was more control in the process. Even though it's still a dash of magic that anyone can get pregnant, I think injectibles were the best method for our success.

@Mrs Green Grass: Thank you! Iui #1 was unmedicated and iui #2 will be as well; RE and I have discussed clomid briefly and that's probably what he will suggest come #3. I just wondered about my options and the pros & cons

@twoofeverything: Thanks! Were any of the medicines successful for you?

@Happygal: Thank you! I've heard the most about clomid but what worries me is that some say it makes their lining thin, which is of course the opposite of what we want!

@PurplePumps: Great info!! Thank you!!

@mrsmate: Congrats on your new baby! And thank you; I hope we get a sticky baby before then too! How did the clomid treat you? I am okay with the added effort of needles & doctor visits; I just want to give us the best chance!

Injectables were a different ballgame for us...WAY more follicles and WAY more monitoring.

If you o regularly, I doubt you would want to do injectable for an Iui because it's the hardest way to control number of embryos. It hunk it makes sense to try unmed first and then move to Clomid/femara...they are very similar.

Good luck!

I did 6 cycles of Clomid w/intercourse and 2 cycles of IUI with injectables. We got a :bfp: on our 2nd IUI.

Injectable medication is not for the faint of heart! Not only are you giving yourself shots everyday, you have to go in for a transvaginal u/s every other day, and possibly everyday as you get closer to trigger. DD2 is now 11wks old, so I can tell you it is 100% worth it  But I do hope you get your BFP before.

The end goal is predictable ovulation and but they do it in completely different ways. I think Clomid blocks estrogen receptors so that your produce more. Femera, if I remember what my RE told me right actually suppresses production so that it tries harder and therefore produces more once you stop taking it. Femera half live is much more than Clomid and it out of your system very quickly. Injectibles are actually the hormones you would produce yourself, rather than a mechanism to cause your body to produce more hormones on it's own. My RE said injectibles have a much higher risk of more follicles and it involves more monitoring.

Hi! Oral med and injectables work in different ways to both do the same thing--over stimulating your ovaries. For me, injectables helped to build up my uterine lining. Hopefully oral meds can do the trick--they're much cheaper and require less monitoring!

Hi all! I've seen a few posts with people posting about their success with iui, the majority of which seemed to be medicated. My doctor wants to do a medicated cycle for iui #3 (in April if #2 doesn't work!) and I'm just curious about the differences between clomid and femara, and injectables.

A little about me: ttc 14 cycles; natural bfp ended in mc at 5.5 weeks; extremely regular 27 day cycles & ovulate on my own. DH initially diagnosed with low count and low motility; iui #1 looked great for him though.

Thanks ladies!
