Normal! And my LO is 4.5 mo and still does that...someone should remind her that she's no longer a newborn!

I remember reading in my desperate searches on baby sleep with LO1 that it's normal for a baby to cluster feed in the evenings to tank up and have one long stretch and then returning to the typical 2-3 hour shorter stretches for the rest of the night and through put the day.

@Meowkers: Sorry! It is a little overwhelming! I'd start with "Sleep & Nap Patterns 7 to 16 weeks" and move from there based on age or problems you encounter. I hope that helps

@snowjewelz: We've been putting her down for sleep and naps while she's awake from day one. Sometimes for naps I'll give her a pacifier to help her fall asleep and then once she's asleep I take it away. At night time sometimes she'll fuss a little (but not cry), and then will just fall asleep.

Yep, like pp said, totally normal!

The now defunct Isis Parenting sleep webinars helped me a ton when I was trying to figure out what was normal and what needed "help." Here's the You Tube link.

Not weird at all! Actually very good. My boys didn't stretch out that first bit of night time sleep until closer to 8 weeks! At 5 weeks they were still up every 2-3 hours.

This is why I love Hellobee! Thanks so much ladies! I had no idea that this was the norm. And I'm happy to hear that the first stretch will continue to get longer. Actually last night we had a record breaking 6.5 hours of sleep in the first stretch. It was glorious.

Yeah this is completely normal! Often they tank up on milk to get through that longest stretch at the beginning. You'll start to see that first stretch get longer and longer until hopefully no more MOTN wakeups!

My DD is 5 weeks old. She has fallen into a nighttime sleeping pattern where she'll sleep for a long stretch in the first part of the night (anywhere from 4 to 6 hours), but then in the second part of the night she won't sleep longer than 3 hours. In fact it's usually around 2.5 hours. When she wakes up after her long stretch, I change her and feed her until she's full, burp her and then put her back in the crib. When I put her back in sometimes she's asleep and sometimes she's awake but drowsy. She's able to settle herself back to sleep pretty quickly. This is pretty much the same thing I do before I put her down in the evening for her long sleeping stretch so I can't figure out why the difference in sleep length.

I'm trying to figure out why she has this pattern and what I can do to extend the second half of the night like the first. Any thoughts or ideas?
