@wrkbrk: that is a good point! If it can be taken daily for MS, I'm sure occasionally for sleep would be totally fine. It's funny because in the middle of the night when I'm lying awake I keep thinking, "this is so awful, I HAVE to get unisom tomorrow." But in the daytime it always seems not so bad lol.

@LCTBQE: yay, I've been hoping you would come join us :-) I hope your next appointment goes great. I know what you mean about the first tri. I still feel (and look) pretty normal so sometimes it's hard to trust things are moving forward. I'm eager to get to my next US, but I still have two weeks to wait. So impatient!

@LCTBQE: that's what I thought too! With my daughter, weeks 8 to 3rd tri were a breeeeeze. But this little guy is something else. I try to stop the Unisom every week and without fail, I'm up at night dry heaving into my pillow. MISERABLE.

@MrsSCB: @wrkbrk: @pinkcupcake: @ChiCalGoBee: okay, I have benedryl but am dragging through two feet of snow to Rite Aid to get Unisom this afternoon. Sorry to hear you ladies are all also bothered. I'll report back. Second trimester, WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU? I have said this before, but I wouldn't mind being put in a medically induced coma until 12 weeks, like at a nice facility.

@pinkcupcake: you still have insomnia AND morning sickness at 17 weeks?! gah. I thought you were supposed to be in glory days?

@MrsSCB: I've been heavily stalking the August DD board  so glad everything has been going well for you! if my next scan is successful I think I'll join, just been too freaked to so far. it's quite a group you guys have going!

@MrsSCB: I understand! Think about the fact that those with morning sickness take 1-2 pills a day everyday for weeks! I didn't have ms so I felt OK about taking it for sleep at the end!

I'm still dealing with it at 17 weeks. :( I'm sorry, it's just awful. I do take Unisom
At night to help with morning sickness but it doesn't make me very sleepy anymore. I also wake up about 50x to pee and then I have such a hard time falling asleep.

No real advice, just commiserating

@wrkbrk: I'm glad to hear it helped, I really need to get some. Everything I've read says it's very safe, but for some reason, when I read the package and it said "consult your doctor if pregnant" it made me nervous all over again. Even though my OB literally already told me it was fine, so I've consulted my doctor. I swear pregnancy is turning me into a crazy person :meh:

Insomnia was my first real symptom. I never was tired during my first trimester, but I would wake up to pee and just be UP for ages. I think it went away around when the second trimester started. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy!

YES. Ugh. I'm a terrible sleeper in general, like I never sleep straight through the night, but now I don't sleep more than two hours without waking up and then I have trouble falling asleep. My doc recommended Unisom (people take it for nausea, too, which thankfully I've not had) but I haven't tried it yet. It sucks, I really sympathize. I hope it gets better in the 2nd tri.

I took diclegis which made me constantly tired so I slept like a baby up until 16 weeks when I stopped taking it. Now I have the same insomnia you are talking about. I go to sleep fine but wake up a couple hours later and can't sleep the rest of the night.

I've pretty much had it on and off, but mostly on, my whole pregnancy. The first trimester was the worse, as my body wasn't used to it. It's gotten a lot better lately though. I can get a good nights sleep every so often, and I think my body has gotten used to the lessor sleep incriminates. I just think of it as my bodies way of preparing me for a newborn.

@Legowife: I know!

@Foodnerd81: @DesertDreams88: yes, I'd always heard about having to get up to pee a million times in the third trimester, just didn't expect it quite like this and so soon. great tip about the benedryl, thanks

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @meadow: this sounds exactly like what's happening with me--thanks for replying. Just realized upon reading about your bedtime push-back that I'm in a bad sleep cycle, too--I've been going to bed around 8 or 9pm, which I never do in real life. Going to try staying up until an actual adult bedtime tonight, like 11, and taking the benedryl right then to see if it helps. hope the pregnancy works and I can make it to the mythical second-tri happy land soon. glad to hear you both made it out of the insomnia tar pit

I definitely had some during the first trimester. Many nights where I woke up at 1 or 2am and was wide awake. I'd read HB or other sites on my phone for like 2 hours to tire me out again. It was very frustrating! I don't remember exactly which weeks it began and ended....but for me it didn't go into the 2nd trimester. I'm 18 weeks now and sleeping normal with quick wake ups to go to the bathroom. Hope it doesn't last too much longer for you!!!

I had insomnia for the latter part of the first trimester and into the second trimester. It lasted at least 7 weeks. I was going to bed at a decent time 8 pm or so and would wake around 1:30 am and couldn't go back to sleep for hours. I didn't have nausea, but I was so sleepy when it was time for me to actually wake up around 6:15 am.
What I did was force myself to go to bed later and that pushed my early wake time back. It was hard because I still felt super tired after the first tri. Now I STTN again and can fall asleep after two sometimes three nightly bathroom interruptions.

I had insomnia on and off throughout my pregnancy. It was so annoying! I think it was like most pregnancy symptoms, bad in the beginning, a little better in the middle, then really bad again at the end. The end was the worst.
Sorry, it really sucks. :(

Did you have insomnia in your first trimester (or after)?

I'm 9.5 weeks and almost every night since 8w, I've woken up at 3:30am because I have to pee and am nauseated, followed by hours of more nausea. Not vomiting, just lying on the couch feeling queasy, eating crackers or cereal. I can't fall back asleep until 7am, at which point I have to get up, walk the dog, and go to work. I'm a zombie.

If you had something similar, what was it like for you and how long did it last?
