Mine covered one - the only qualification under my policy was that I be pregnant or have recently delivered. There were only a few durable medical equipment companies from which I could order it. I randomly picked one and the pump arrived 2 days later. I was about 2 months prior to my due date at the time.

Mine doesn't :( I called, it is because the company has been "grandfathered" in, and they chose not to cover it. Apparently I can get one if the baby is in the NICU and I have to leave the hospital first, boo!

I have anthem bcbs and was instructed to order through edgepark. I was able to order it 1 month prior to my due date. They contacted my doctor's office and did everything. I got my pump in a few days!

Yes! I got mine covered too, soooo nice! It did suck having to go to the store to get it, I was very emotional (baby was in NICU and I was discharged) so I probably should have sent someone else to do it.

Yeah my BCBS won't cover them until after July, and then only if your doctor says it's "medically necessary." They have a bunch of loopholes to basically circumvent the affordable care act.

Yep mine will be free too (united healthcare)! I just have to wait until after the baby is here. :)

I got a very vague confusing answer when I called my plan (also BCBS). I'm not really sure what they will cover, and they won't send it until I have the baby or right before, plus she was actually just reading me off phone numbers, rather than just sending me a list. I am going to call again closer to my due date in hopes that they have sorted it out.

They will at the very least cover a manual, though of the names she gave me, none carry that. I have a hand me down double electric from my sister, but of course, I'd rather a new one. If they only cover the manual I will still get it to keep with me for emergencies or vacations or whatever.

I got mine free too. I have Cigna, but they shipped mine before baby was here. Ended up not getting here till R was two weeks old cause I called late and they took forever for shipping.

My plan covers a manual hand pump. I didn't order one since I already have one at home.

Yep, it's definitely worth the time to check it out. My experience wasn't very easy, but I did get my pump in the mail on Tuesday free of charge! The most frustrating part was finding a durable good provider that was in-network, but once I did, it was a very simple process. And in my plan, I did not have to wait until I gave birth, which was great!

Definitely worth looking into, but not all of them do yet. My BCBS PPO won't be covering them fully until next year! I hope most people are luckier than I on this one!

I learned the other day that some health insurance companies will cover your breast pump. I have BCBS and they fully cover pumps! It's pretty easy to do... for my insurance, they sent me a list of medical supply places in the area where I can bring a prescription from my OB for the pump. The only thing is you can't pick up the pump until the baby is born. But you can go in ahead of time with the prescription and your health insurance info so you are ready to go once the baby is here, someone can even pick it up for you. It's worth looking into!
