@winniebee: I don't think you are required to have WC insurance for a nanny in ME.

Check out page 3: http://www.maine.gov/pfr/insurance/consumer/pdf/Workcomp_Employer_Guide.pdf

Employers Who are Not Required to Have Workers’ Compensation Coverage:
 Employers of domestic servants in a private home.

But you might want to call the WC Board to make sure - not sure how they define "domestic servant" tho seems like a nanny would fall under that term. Surprising, since we levy like every other tax on employers! :silly:

She is on the books.

I just signed up through HomePay and the last step was asking me about whether I wanted to purchase workers comp insurance. Well, shit, I thought. I said no but now that I think about it I probably have to. This nanny is costing me a whole lot more than I had anticipated.

We are in NYC and also go through Homepay. We had to buy the insurance through the state. I doubt you already have it through homeowners.

Ours in on the books, and I think that cost *may* be part of what we pay through HomePay but I'm not positive.

Is your nanny on the books? If so, you may need to get worker's comp insurance - here it's through the state insurance fund, and I think it's just an annual payment (like $600 or something).
