@MamaMoose: Slightly different situation, but yes, it warranted a complaint.

An agency collected 10% of my payment, after I explained to them 3 times that per my coverage, I owe 100%. They even sent me an receipt stating I had $0 balance & my financial responsibility had been fulfilled. Lo and behold, I got a bill in the mail for the balance. I called to fight it, based on principal, but the manager refused to take my complaint & treated me like I was looking for a hand-out. She advised me to contact my insurance company to "be advised on my health benefits."

So, I filed a complaint with my insurance company and my state attorney general. I paid the balance in full -- I knew I owed it from the initial phone call -- but am really, really upset that my benefits were interpreted incorrectly by a person who's **job** is to interpret health benefits.

@mrs. bird: Sorry you are having such a hard time.
I work with insurance and unfortunately those "rules" are plan specific. There wouldn't be a general answer to a "way around it". It is frustrating to have to wait longer but if your plan only allows for certain types of appointments in conjunction with others then you would likely need to wait until your insurance will allow it.
Hang in there!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Good for you for filing a complaint!! So many people would just pay the bill and get over it.

Any time I have a conversation regarding coverage as soon as it's over I send myself an email with all the details of the conversation as well as the name of the person I spoke to and the date and time of the conversation. So if I get any surprises later on I can go back and show that I was promised coverage.

@GreenThumb: I'm frustrated for you!!

I was given incorrect information regarding coverage as well, and was very shocked to get a hefty bill in the mail last month. I've filed a complaint with both my insurance company & the Attorney General.

thanks for your support ladies!

@GreenThumb: oh my goodness, that is a HUGE mistake on their part for providing you with such flawed information! what a terrible bump in an emotional journey to begin with :( i'm sorry that happened to you. i'm thankful that in MA our healthcare is fantastic & all of our ins plans are required to cover infertility treatments, including in vitro.

I'm so sorry. I totally feel your frustration with the insurance industry! I was told THREE times by THREE different people at my insurance company that IVF would be covered... cue a HUGE sigh of relief from me. Only to find out recently that no, we have NO infertility coverage whatsoever. WHAT? How's that for frustration, misinformation, etc!

Yuck. I'm sorry. I can't help since it would be very specific to your insurance plan, but I can commiserate. I lost over an hour of my life recently having to make calls back and forth between my insurance and my imaging center to make sure my NT scan was covered. It was and all was fine but it was a pain in the BUTT

Wow, I had no idea about any of this! I've never done anything other than my annual appointment before. That sounds frustrating, I hope it works out soon!

after some confusion with the ins company, i had to cancel my dr appt on friday where i was supposed to have my physical & discuss my anovulatory cycles & TTC. of course later in that day the ins was all sorted out & there was never an problem with it (grrrr).

i called to reschedule it this morning & was told i could have another appointment.... the end of june! i can't have a 'problem' appt because we haven't been trying for over a year- umm i've been off birth control since last may, but they say you aren't 'allowed' to TTC for 2 months after going off BC so it hasn't been a year. my cycles are way too long, but i get SOME bleeding less than 80 days apart, so it doesn't count. can't be booked as a TTC appt because my yearly exam is over due, i was trying to book them at the same time! but if they think of another way to bill it that will be covered before the end of june, she'll let me know!

i know it's just a month away =( i'm tired & frustrated & last time she was able to get me in the following wk but after the bs ins problem, now i have to wait LONGER?!? anyone ins savvy & know how to book it sooner to be covered??
