@TheReelDeal: Unfortantely with my daughter's medical issues, there are very few specialists available in our area, and all are out of network. We are already driving an hour to the closest specialist. We will just have to suck it up and deal with it since we are finally making some progress with these doctors!

@LuLu Mom: That really stinks! The best bet, if you can is to always use in network. I used to work in insurance and companies would choose really high out of network maxes to force in network usage and keep costs down.

@TheReelDeal: You win :( We have paid over 3500 out of pocket (our max) BUT that is only the max for In Network, and that amount is a combination of in and out of network. Looks like no matter what we do we most likely won't hit the max on Out of Network because that is very high.

When you use out of network services, you should have a different out of network deductible. Typically, but not always, out of network services will not apply to your in network family deductible but it will apply to your overall out of pocket costs. Hopefully that made some sense

What is your max out of pocket? You should never have to pay more than that. I have a high deductible plan where I carry DS and myself.

@LuLu Mom: I hear you! I always get confused dealing with insurance too, and I feel like I'm pretty smart! It's like they're intentionally confusing - probably so you end up paying more than you should have to! Good luck with the call!!

@Adira: My husband is planning on calling, I looked online and the numbers are just not adding up! I hate dealing with insurance companies! I think I'm a pretty intellegent woman, and I always end up feeling like an idiot after I hang up the phone Agggh :)

@Mrs. Jump Rope: We have 80/20 until we hit the maximum out of pocket then no more copay.

Honestly, I don't know. If you've hit your out of pocket max for the year, I would call your insurance company and ask them about it. Have all your bills and EOBs on hand so you can figure this out with them!

I know all plans are different but I *think* this is a pretty basic question. We are on a family plan, we each have an individiual deductible & then there is a family deductible.

We have hit LO's individual deductible and that has been applied to our family plan, but I know from all our explanation of benefits that we have paid more out of pocket than that (I'm guessing due to out of network specialists.) My question is why is this not being applied to our family deductible. We have well paid the maximum family out of pocket but yet the bills keep coming in.
