Very interesting! I have cut out just about all screen time for my 3 year old. I totally agree that my time and attention is what she needs. Not iPad games, cartoons, etc.

@mrbee: oh yeah totally. It's a natural part of parenting!
M's been getting a lot more screen time since baby J arrived so this article hit close to home. :T cut her tv time almost completely yesterday and today. Partly bc of this article, but also bc p's home :P :)

There are studies showing that those reading videos are really not good for development and confer no reading advantage anyway.

My daughter is almost 3 and is doing a lot of reading activities. If she shows interest and asks, we work on it. When she doesn't we don't. I see no harm in interacting with her on things that she is interested in... but that extra extra did hit close to home as I have definitely been in the intellectual stimulation camp. It gave me a lot to think about for sure!

@chopsuey119: I think it's ok to teach things (typical American!)... just not at the cost of social skills and secure attachment?

@mrbee: Yep! My parents weren't obsessed with teaching us how to read, etc. All I remember from my early childhood is playing outside and family time.
Somehow (:P :D) all of us ended up doing well academically--English prof, surgeon and an almost lawyer turned SAHM :)

@chopsuey119: interesting! Kind of in line with that Extra Extra that said Americans are too obsessed with intellectual stimulation.
