We did the $10/day Verizon add-on and it worked great. It was the ability for LO's caretaker to be able to contact *us* (which wasn't always an option with Skype or FaceTime) that was so important, thus the special plan.</p> <p>We traveled to SE Asia and Turkey this summer (with LO) and temporarily used a T-Mobile plan just for the trip, though. It was actually much cheaper and the service was just as good - we only paid $25 through using Ebates to sign up. This might be another good option that you can continue to use for other trips. It's cheaper to do a one time use (for an emergency) than subscribe to a daily plan.</p> <p>Eta: we just use wifi to call with FaceTime. They were traveling in Rome at the time. I would say just use wifi access for its offered at your resort. If you have Verizon you can add the $10/day plan or $40 for an entire month (more economical if staying more than 4 days). If I was traveling without my kids, I would definitely do it. What if your kids just want to call you, or you them?</p> <p>Be very careful with your data use too.</p> <p>ETA: Actually now that I think about it, we didn't do an international plan last year when we were outside of the country in the carbiibean for only 3 days. We just used wifi to keep in connection with parents. It's $10 per day if it's used, and nothing if we don't use it at all on any given day. I'm thinking it's probably a necessity to keep in touch with my mom who will have the girls? But we have never traveled away from them that far before, so I'm not sure! </p>
