I am not in one nor have I been in one before, not because I'm against it just never happened. I think in my community it's less common than in bigger areas ,so people I think tend to judge/stare more when they see it.

It drives me bonkers, but my family is guilty of judging and making comments that are a form of racism in my mind. (Anything to do with with stereotypes.) I'm all for loving who you love and not worrying about what others think!

I sort of am (is that weird to say?) I'm white and DH is 75% white, 25% Native American (his grandma is full blood). Though, I've never thought of us as interracial.

Lots of interracial couples in Boston!

This is one of those things that gets me really fired up! I'm not in a interracial relationship, but some of my friends are/have been. We live in the South and a LOT of people still have issues with it. My mother and grandparents have really strong opinions on interracial relationships/marriages. I don't even want to post some comments they've made because they're so offensive.

I am 100% supportive of interracial relationships!

I am in one. My husband is black and I'm white (Italian). I am very aware when, in conversation, I am being judged. Or maybe not judged, but there have been so many conversations with others where it seems they're just trying to see how it works. Ignorance really, but not always malicious. Either way I was always defensive and felt I had to justify our love. We live in a community now where it doesn't seem that this happens as often as it used to. Or perhaps I just don't care as much as I used to.

There was a great article on this in the NYT last year:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/13/us/for-mixed-family-old-racial-tensions-remain-part-of-life.html?pagewanted=all

I think at the end of the day, it's kind of up to the interracial family to decide how to treat stuff like this. I decided when I was younger to ignore it... when I got older, I started treating them as opportunities to educate people (who were ignorant out of a lack of experience, usually). It was annoying though, so I couldn't wait to move up north where it matters less.

DH is black and I am half Cuban/half white. I think I am brown enough to not get a lot of eyeballs, but we have definitely gotten them, especially in my hometown in the South. I think its more just checking out DH because he is a handsome black man & my hometown is very white! :)

We moved to a very small, rural Southern town because of Papa Y's job, and people would not even attempt to hide their stares at first. I don't notice it quite as much now, so either they're used to us or we're used to them staring. Meh.

I'm white and dated a Kenyan man in college. I was shocked by the reactions people had to our relationship. On a few occasions black girls would follow us and say some pretty mean things to me. I found that when we were in DC we had problems, but when we went north (NYC, Boston) nobody really cared.
Now, DH is Canadian, blond, and waspy and MIL thinks I'm too ethnic being brown-haired and all. (My family is Spanish and Dutch) She's a little nutty though :)

I feel like people look at us (I am Chinese, DH is German/Polish) here in the suburbs. I don't see a lot of interracial relationships around me but half an hour away in NYC it is not a big deal.

The other day I went to DH's doctor for the first time and I had put down that DH referred me. The doctor asked if I was DH's co-worker and when I said "No, he is my husband", the doctor seemed really surprised....like overly surprised ....

I'm glad to be part of a generation where this is predominantly an accepted norm... love is love and skin color/age/sex/gender doesn't stop us from loving who we love and want to be with...

I am Korean and DH is Caucasian (Polish/German)... while we've never been cognizant of this throughout our dating/marriage... I have noticed we get "eyes" especially when we go up north to his parents' hometown.

However, where we live... we see a lot of interracial/mixed couples and aren't conscious of our race/ethnicity differences at all.

How about you? Are you in an interracial relationship? How are your geographic surroundings?
