I wanted their decision to be based on my merit. I figure, if they really didn't want to hire me due to my pregnancy, it would show in our negotiations on compensation and what not. The points about leave are important, but paid leave is pretty much not guaranteed anywhere in the US. I would still do the interviews though-- it sounds like you've been watching for a while and haven't seen something like this come up. You'd work there for many months before leaving to prove yourself. Other people with more HR know how might answer this better, but I wonder if you can bring up maternity leave in your salary negotiation if you are offered the job? I don't have any 'paid maternity leave', but I do have short-term disability (50% pay for 6 weeks). This kicked in after I was here for 6 months. You have to be at a job for a year before you deliver to be eligible.
