BabyEtte on etsy (she also has a website) is accredited by an actual babywearing association, wore/ wears her many kids, and makes lovely wovens for well under $100. I bought one for wearing my DD and LOVED it! I could still use it now (she's 18 months), but I'm too pregnant and don't like wearing her over my belly/ back wearing her right now. I have it set aside and ready for baby #2!

@Navy_Mommy: Wait-- I knew the "bad angel" voice sounded familiar! I don't hate on 4s exactly... I just don't *love* them. And your wrap was very nice. I am just honestly scared to open any kind of stash time/space continuum between our respective houses. It might end poorly (as in, I might run out of space to put the suckers and you might have all my money ;) ).
@sslm: Your daughter's size doesn't have as much of an impact on sizing as your own size. And I agree with @Navy_Mommy: about Moby and wovens being apples and oranges. I don't think how you felt about the Moby would be a good predictor at all.

If you follow Marsupial Mamas on facebook and Twitter she regularly does sales. Right now she has a coupon code for 40% off anything in the "wrap closet" section of her shop but it's pretty picked over already.

I have a basic intro to woven wraps on my blog.

Sizing is weird. "They" say a good start is a 6 for most people. That is what I started with and I like the front carries you can do with it but for back carries and hip carries I actually prefer a 4 (which I know for a fact @Mrs. Twine doesn't like, lol).

@Mrs. Twine: do you think since I hated the moby I won't like a ww? That's my worry right now! Maybe I should dig out the moby and wrap her up and see how it goes...

I am 5'10" with a lonnng torso. M is 18 lbs and 28/29 inches long. Does that have any impact on sizing?

@Revel: I should show you some stash shots I have seen! There are people with really huge BW collections! I do find that they are a little like wearable art, so I find that I like having some different colors and patterns (not so much to coordinate with outfits, but just because I feel fancy and decorated wearing something so beautiful).

@Revel: I don't have personal experience with Dolcino. But you really can't go wrong with being able to try things in person. I would try both, and see what seems to work best for you. I 100% agree that jumping into the deep end isn't always a great strategy, so starting with a more affordable wrap while deciding if that style of babywearing appeals to you makes a lot of sense to me!

@sslm: I find that with my toddler I am liking shorter wraps. I am 5'6" and a size 4/6 and a size 3 is my preferred "shortie." I don't have to worry about reclining her as much if she wants to nurse/nap, and I can easily do a back or hip carry, which are my most frequent carry. It packs more easily into my diaper bag, and I'm not futsing around with lengths and lengths of fabric. I'm also really starting to love mei teis for quick up/down and because Lorelei seems to like them. She is old enough to have favorites and has names for our different wraps and carriers, so when you try some things, you can also look to see your daughter's preference.

@sslm: I have a bunch (some might say I have a problem....) - actually a very similar set to yours. I wear her the most these days in the beco gemini, but I also have a Sakura ring sling and a k'tan. The k'tan is/was my favorite but it's not as comfortable as she is getting bigger, so that got me thinking about getting a true woven wrap.

@Mrs. Twine: thanks for your help! To answer your question, I'd like to be able to wear her? Lol. I'm not too sure exactly I guess. I'd like a length that's easy to maneuver!!!! And yes there's a group here so I could definitely go and try some.

Oh, following. I think I want to get one for Christmas too! My LO is 5 months old so I'll be starting late with you :) .

@Mrs. Twine: The link you posted about sizing is great! Do you know anything about Dolcino wraps? A baby store in my neighborhood stocks them along with the Storchenweige ones, and I was going to check them out. Both seem relatively affordable.

:) I love that you want to try a woven! It is totally not too late to start-- I've worn Ellie recently and she is 6! I don't do it for long periods, but sometimes if we're out for a long time and she asks, I will.

Under $100 for a woven will be a little tricky. Storchenweige makes great wovens that are fairly cheap. C&C wraps are cheaper and decent. You might be able to find a Girasol. I really love Gypsy Mama wraps (the breeze or stretch) for a cheapie wrap that's good quality.

As for size-- what do you want to be able to do with it? There are some great charts out there, and guides like this that are a good place to start: http://www.wrapyourbaby.com/sizing.html Do you live somewhere that has a babywearing group that you could maybe attend a few times to learn and try things?

As for learning curve, it depends on the person. What a cop-out answer, I know, but it is so true. What you will find is that once you learn the basics (how to get a good seat, the basic starting points of different carries, etc.) you will be able to be more creative with how you wrap.

I'm sort of a babywearing newbie, I have a moby that I used a little bit when my baby was new, but I didn't like it too much. I have an ergo that I use often, and a homemade ring sling that I use sometimes around the house. I'm intrigued by woven wraps though! My daughter is 6 months old, do you think it's too late to try a ww??

Also, can someone recommend a decent one that's under $100, preferably new as I'd like to put it on my Christmas list! Also, is the learning curve super steep?

And what size??
