@maybebaby: thanks! I have been working as a nanny, but not in my field. Kind of bitter about the degree I chose and student loans haha! I don't have much advice about laundry, we have W/D in our home :/

Welcome to Hellobee!

It's very true that one is never 100% ready to have a baby - you just dive in and go for it! But maybe you can talk it over with your hubby about your concerns and see what his perspective is. Good luck!

@mjane: We really are in a similar situation! I have done the send out for laundry thing, but I wasn't sure how I'd feel about doing that for baby's things, esp with the turn around time it takes. Best of luck to you! This is all so crazy and exciting!

I am in a very similar situation--a part-time working, grad student renter who got married last July! I don't know if it's exactly sensible, but we are going ahead with TTC now (in part because my PCOS might mean that it will take a while, and in part because we... really want to!). It's completely terrifying and also exciting. Given our careers, there's never going to be the perfect time when everything's all lined up in a row. So we figured we should just go for it, since we were both excited about it and we can make it work with insurance + some savings. We'll see...

The washer-dryer thing is no joke. Fortunately I have discovered the joys of sending laundry out. I can't recommend it enough! It sounds kind of insane, but it is so convenient and not actually that much more expensive at our laundromat. Delicates I do when I visit home or my sister.

@maybebaby: just read your reply... we live in a rental too. We have always rented places with W/D in the unit. I'm sure you could find one!! It's a little tougher, but worth it. We may end up moving to a place with community laundry though. It would suck, but it could work.

I could always do laundry while DS naps, and take the monitor with me... depending how far away the laundry is. It doesn't take too long to throw in a load and go back to your apt. Or you can babywear! That makes it easier too!

welcome!!

I was a lot like you... crazy excited at the prospect of trying... but when I actually got pregnant I started FREAKING. OUT. BIGTIME.

I was like oh good lord what the heck did I get myself into. No going back now!! It was really scary - but you adjust and make do. Looking back on it now - I wish I had waited a *little* longer, til I had finished my degree (I have my 2 year). But then I wouldn't have this precious boy!! and I love him so much and wouldn't trade him for anything. It all works out!!

I was 21 when I got pregnant, 22 when I had him. And I was told by countless people, even complete strangers, "if you wait til you're "ready" to have kids, you'll never have them!"
And for so many people, it's so true!! We went for it and glad we did. It's a struggle sometimes, living on one income because I can't quite make enough $$ to make working worth it - but I'm investing in the life of my son and I have to daily remind myself how important of a job that is!

No matter when you decide to start trying - it will all be worth it in the end! and it will all work out! Good luck :):)

Thanks, everyone!

@sorrycharlie: This is so reassuring to hear! Congrats on your pregnancy (and graduating!) Have you been working (if you don't mind my asking?) Do you plan to work after baby? The big thing for me and apartment living is that we have no W/D--we may look for a new place if we get pregnant, just because I can't imagine doing laundry every 3 days with a LO in the laundromat...

@Mrs D: I feel better even later today, esp. after talking to my husband on his lunch break, voicing my freaked out feelings, and hearing how excited HE is about it. Somehow hearing him so excited and confident makes me a whole lot less nervous.

Hello!

Yes, it's normal. We discussed it forever and decided to go for it, and when I found out I was pregnant, I had a melt down. I told my husband I changed my mind and we weren't ready and we made a mistake. He laughed at me. Turns out he was right. It was fine. We're fine.

Totally normal.

These are such normal feelings, or I guess I am hoping they are because this is exactly how I feel! We just decided that we would start ttc in the next few months and it totally freaked me out! I calm down a little bit each day! :)

welcome!! we were also married last year (July!) and unexpectedly decided to just go for it. Even through TTC-ing, I was having panic attacks thinking we were NUTS! I was in grad school (graduated this May '12) and we live in an apartment, have debt, etc. But we went for it - I got pregnant and cried (I felt like I was screwing our baby over because we didn't own a home and aren't rich), but now we're so, so excited. We're due in September :) It's totally, totally normal to be nervous!

Congrats, and welcome!

Being ready is not going to be a concrete point where everything (job, money, accounts, house) looks exactly right. It's a gut instinct you get, and everything else could be the opposite of what you consider "ready," while you both are more than ready mentally! That's what's important (I think). :)

Hello! I am brand new to HelloBee, though I've been lurking for a while and was over on WB before this. My husband and I have been married for a little over a year (June 4, 2011). He is employed full time and I work part time and am beginning my last year of graduate school. We have been talking about having a family since before we got married, but because he was in school and now I am, and we live in an apartment, we thought we would wait a while until things seemed more "stable." We kind of decided that our two year anniversary seemed like a good time to go for it. Lately, however, we've both been a little baby crazy.

Last night we had an unplanned and very serious conversation about just going for it NOW, moving our timeline up almost a year. If we were to get pregnant quickly, the baby would (god willing) not come until after I completed graduate school. I could then look for jobs over the summer staying at home with the LO and then go back to work PT. I was so excited last night about the idea of it.

This morning, I am having a mini panic attack--what if we AREN'T ready? Maybe I should take this year to focus on school and enjoy this time with my husband (we've been together for 4 years but were friends for 6 years prior--not like we haven't spent good time together, but I do love this period of just us). Maybe we should plan a fun just the two of us trip for our anniversary and wait until then to try? Do all people have a little panic attack when TTC becomes more real?

If we do start going for it, next week is the first FW...so soon! Anyways, sorry to ramble on and on. Obviously DH and I will continue to talk about it and I will fill him in on my feelings. Just interested to see how other people felt when they made these kind of decisions. Thanks for listening, and I look forward to getting to know you all!
