I know for me, I picked the OB, based on where they would deliver, just because I already knew the hospital I wanted. (mostly due to distance). I've known where I wanted to deliver for a long time, we have an excellent birthing center that's part of a nearby hospital, and there aren't any options that even come close. So I just went on their website the other day and read through their list of OBs that have privileges, and then chose one based on local reviews. lol, which is pretty much how I pick everything -- Angie's List :) They scheduled my first appointment and ultrasound for June 13, when I'll be about 6 weeks. I'm not sure though since I O'ed on day 20, whether I'll be far enough along to see anything... I guess we'll see! My regular doctor is in the town where I work, but it's about 30 minutes away from where we live/want to deliver. His office is also attached to the hospital where I plan to deliver, so that was convenient. We plan to tour when I'm in the 3rd Trimester. My DH isn't a fan of the hospital from our first experience delivering there (lots of babies being delivered, not enough nurses on staff), but I love my doc so I am sticking with her. I POAS yesterday and got a BFP (twice). I called my GP to make an initial prenatal appointment before moving to an OB since we still need to choose a birthing center. They just so happened to have an opening for me yesterday afternoon. Since I didn't technically have a period on my last cycle on BP (just spotting the week prior to placebo) she was just estimating that I was probably 4 weeks. She didn't really do much except for doing a urine pregnancy test and confirmed the BFP. She said to start touring birthing centers, pick one, and then choose an OB at that center. Only problem is the tours for the one I think I will choose are only done twice a month and both are at the end of June. I was hoping to schedule my appointment for the end of June when I would be around 8 weeks. What has your experience been when choosing an OB? Did you select the OB first and then tour the hospital/birthing center later? When did you first see an OB, did you wait until the customary 8 weeks? Thanks for reading this novel and any insight :)
