We started a pacifier around 4 weeks because that was the only way DH could take him at night so I could sleep. It worked great. He seems to know the difference between breast and pacifier, but he gladly takes both/either. We used the natursutten rubber and now the Ecobub (which they sell at Whole Foods) and loved both (tho you have to replaced the natursutten every 6-8 weeks), he sucks on them just as he would suck on a breast. I think you should try it. If you notice her start to get lazy at the breast, just go ahead and nix it.

Another tactic is using your pinky, soft side up. My husband did that for the first few weeks before introducing a pacifier.

We introduced the pacifier at 2ish weeks I think? She is EBF with 1 bottle of pumped milk per night and still nurses just fine. Every baby is different. She loves to suck when she's upset.

Since it is in the evening, she could be still hungry like everyone else said. At this point, I think it is safe to introduce a paci but she might just want the boob anyway!

my baby likes to cluster feed, she is 3 weeks old, I also tried to give her a pacifier to see if that would calm her down, but she hates the pacifier and spits it out

It sounds like cluster feeding to me. We tried to introduce a pacifier to my LO around that age and he wanted nothing to do with it...which I am SO happy about now!

Try it and see what happens. By now I would think she will know the difference. Remember she might be cluster feeding and actually hungry though

LO is 5 weeks old, and I've been breastfeeding since she was born. We used the shield and the beginning, and have only been without it for about 3 weeks. We started giving her a bottle of pumped breast milk a day so she will be able to take a bottle when I return to work. There seems to be a period in the evening where she is very fussy and seems to want to suck, even after just eating. I feel like a pacifier would really help to comfort her, but I'm nervous about confusing her and hurting our BF relationship. Anyone have any advice or input on this??? She has been doing great still with BF and the one bottle a day, but I'm afraid to push my luck, if that makes any sense. Thanks!
