I've found on a TON on here: http://www.wholesomebabyfoods.momtastic.com
After a lot of back-and-forth, we went ahead and started our LO's on whole grain organic rice cereal two weeks ago (5.5 months). DS has had a lot of reflux issues, and even though we don't have any family history of food allergies, I didn't want to risk ANYTHING. In retrospect, though, I probably could have just skipped it and gone straight to peas...they both did fine!

We started at 5.5 months and skipped cereal.
We started because he was grabbing our food, able to sit in the highchair etc.
There's so much conflicting info out there......so I think it's mostly an instinct thing.

Our LO is just 4 months, and doc said we could start cereal. We skipped rice (because of the arsenic content) and went to oatmeal. He's not really a fan. We only give it to him once or twice a week, and he MAYBE eats a spoonful or two. We figure he's getting practice eating if not much else.

@Mrs. Polish: here's the HB Series on starting solids:
http://www.hellobee.com/start-puree-solids-how-to/

here's the series on BLW:
http://www.hellobee.com/baby-led-weaning/

I personally opted to skip rice cereal; I felt no need to start with a food that doesn't have much nutrition. I think a lot of pediatricians recommended cereal bc it's "easier" for baby to eat and it's iron fortified. But since you're already on formula there's no real concern.
I started with a vegetable that was in season -butternut squash- I steamed it and pureed it and that was M's first solid. My pediatrician also felt very strongly about not starting till 6 months and we felt the same.

If you decide to start with cereal why not make your own? It's SO easy to take brown rice and ground it into "cereal" and cook it stove top. Any form of homemade cereal (brown rice, oatmeal et al) just remember 1/4c powder to 1c water/formula ratio. ;)

Do what you & your DH feel comfortable with under your pediatrician's input.

Honestly? I used Hellobee as my guide. :) I listened to other moms who had been through this stage and took some advice from my pediatrician. My ped said we could talk about solids at 4 months but want to start after our 6 month. That's what we did. We started with nutrient rich foods like avocado, sweet potato and carrots. I pureed my own but jar food is just as good and I used that when we were transitioning away from purees.

While I used my baby's cues for when she wanted/didn't want food, I used this as a guide, as well - http://www.babycenter.com/0_age-by-age-guide-to-feeding-your-baby_1400680.bc

We skipped cereal, she never liked it very much (she was also FF). There is honestly very little nutritional value in baby cereal. It's sort of a "filler" food.

We ended up introducing solids once a day from 4-6 months. She was ready at 4 months, despite whatever AAP recommendations. Just trust your own judgements and look for his cues on that one. At 6 months, we just upped the amount from 1 serving per day (1 jar) to 2-3.

I'm overwhelmed by where to even start reading about feeding past four months. At his last appt, Isaiah's Dr told me we would discuss introducing cereal but I've heard of skipping cereal altogether. We exclusively formula feed. Can you point me in the direction of information you found most helpful?
