I had to switch my son to formula from breast milk at 5 months when my milk dried up after I got pregnant. He refused to take it at first so I eventually had to cut him off from all breastmilk (even though I still had some) and get him to take 100% formula until he would take it happily. I eventually added BM back
To his bottles and nursed him with what little I had.

Cold turkey and warming it up was the only thing that worked for us. He was hungry for a day or two but quickly got the hang of it.

@BadgerMom: yes, i've tried 4 different brands! lol.
@illumina: yes, just a couple of times. yeah it's pretty warm. you're right,I have to stick it through. I guess my main concern is that he won't get enough nutrition but there's not much i can do about it if I don't have enough breast milk to give him when I'm gone. There's no other option, really!

How many times have you tried formula? Just a couple? I would suggest making sure it's warm enough but also persevering. When we switched to formula and then a different formula and then WCM she drank very little for a couple of days until she realised that was all she was getting now. I wasn't BF-ing anymore so we literally just had to wait it out every time.

@BadgerMom: he's never been great at taking the bottle, even with 100% breast milk but he would eventually take it....

Will he still take a 100% breast milk bottle? Or could it be a complete bottle strike?

Are you warming up the formula? We had to at first. Then once I weaned we were able to slowly go to room temp and then cold.

I work part-time and up till now, I've been able to give LO (almost 5 months) breastmilk. I pump only when I'm at work, but it's now not enough for LO for a whole day.
My mom tried giving him straight formula once and he refused it. I then had her add 1 oz formula to 3 oz breastmilk and try that. He refused that!
So now what? I don't have any more milk in my freezer and I am not pumping enough to cover what he needs for the day! I'm so stressed..... I've tried 2 different formulas, both Enfamil....
Does anyone have any tips or advice? Has anyone experienced this?
