Thanks all! Sounds like what she's doing is pretty typical. We'll keep trying...worst thing that happens is she doesn't take to it.

My son is 3 months and I usually have to hold it in his mouth for a minute or so until he really gets sucking it. We mostly just use it to help him fall asleep.

LO would spit it out at first. Took a couple months for him to get the hang of it.

LO seems to like it very occassionally. Sometimes it will soothe her when upset but other times she gets super pissed and spots it out. I think we first introduced it around 4 weeks.

I tried every single pacifier (mam, nuk, soothies) from three weeks on per bf recommendations. She just wouldn't take one. I'd warm them up, put milk on them but nothing worked. I continued to try sporadically for the next few months. Finally at almost five months she decided she was interested in them. So happy I kept trying because it really was a game changer for rides in the car and sleep.

DS took the soothie brand the first night in the hospital! I read somewhere (Happiest Baby on the Block maybe?) that in order to encourage your baby to take it, you should put it in their mouth and then try to take it away. Their reflex is to suck it back in! If you try to push it into their mouths by contrast, their instinct is to spit it out.

DD didn't really care for it until she was 5 months old. Most likely because it helped soothe her when she was teething. Now at almost 18 months she's an addict. :silly:

@atoz: I've heard it's common for them to reject it at first. it probably took my son a month to "like" it. We started him on it when he was 4 weeks old or so. We used the Avent ones. We only use it to get him to sleep when he's crying- he sucks for like 3-5 mins then spits it out.

My 9 month old was never a huge fan. We tried for months, and after a few weeks, she took it sporadically. We never gave it for sleep though, just to try and keep her calm and happy in the car or out and about.

I've been giving one to my 3 week old since day 2 of life and she just isn't interested. You can try different kinds to see if that helps. Not sure what else to do since my first took to it right away.

How did you introduce a pacifier to your LO? My one month old will mouth it for a moment but then lets it fall without seeming too into it. Did it take time for your LO?
