@spaniellove: My understanding is that you just want to be sure you talk to your doctor and give them the history. Basically, my (layman's) understanding is that waiting isn't going to stop an allergy from developing- but your doctor might want to wait until the baby is older for some other reason.

@Silva: If there is a family history (I have multiple severe food allergies and several close relatives have a history as well) is early introduction still a good idea?

I don't have links for any primary sources, but did find this: http://aapnewsde.aap.org/aapnews-open/201302_o/m3/Page.action?pg=13

My husband is in pediatric residency, and has told me (along with our pediatrician) that there are multiple, very compelling studies out showing that earlier introduction is best. We have no family history of allergies. My daughter is 7 months, and we have given her wheat, dairy (yogurt and cheese), eggs (yolk and white), strawberries, mango, and peanuts.

If you are looking for primary sources I can ask my husband for some

Eta: I think the consensus is that delaying does not protect against the development of allergies, and new research is suggesting that earlier introduction may actually help.
Unless you have a history of family allergies, I'd go for it!

I'm trying to make decisions on when to introduce things like eggs (Vi's had yolks but no whites yet).

Does anyone have good resources on recent research regarding the best time to introduce potential allergens?
