B is an extrovert and it was so easy to get him to laugh as a baby! N also seems like an extrovert and the same goes.

E didn't laugh easily as a baby and she's an introvert!

@Raindrop: I can see both interpretations, it's just that my mind went the other way first.

@lady baltimore: I thought it was the opposite too!

The more I thought about it the more it made sense.

For Introverts... if we are over stimulated it's drains our energy. To be happy (and laugh) just a little stimulus is enough especially from people we know.

For Extroverts... we needs more stimulus to get energy so a little stimulus is not enough for us. We need more more more!! to get us excited and laugh.

When you are a baby your personality is basically at the rawest.

Funny, if anything, I would have had the opposite interpretation: he's not looking for input from others to influence his emotional state, must be an introvert!

Wow I'm impressed how right down the middle this is. I guess how easy or hard it is to get your baby to laugh doesn't mean anything. :)

DS laughed from really early on in infancy, and I loved it. He's still a go-easy, has a good time, and loves to laugh at 2. It's so easy to make him laugh too. It cracks me up because I'm like that wasn't funny, but if that makes you laugh, alrighty then! DS is pretty shy around new people and surroundings until he warms up to ya. So I'd say he's an introvert.

We're expecting #2 and this has been a topic of thought for me. I actually voiced this to DH the other night. I wonder if s/he will be as easy and happy going as DS?? I think I'd be kind of sad if s/he wasn't, but I'm interested to see what kind of personality s/he develops!

I know a lot of very serious children, but I know a lot of VERY introverted engineers, so there's that :) Both of my kids smile and laugh easily, but E has developed introverted tendencies as a toddler. She'll play by herself for very long periods of time, all alone, for example. And after a very busy day with other people, I often find that she retreats into her room for some quiet solo time and kicks us out!

Really hard to get her to smile and laugh as a baby, but at almost 2 she laughs all the time. I still class her as an introvert now because she can be quite shy.

This is such a funny post, partly cause that was so true with my son! We could never get him to smile or laugh on demand, now at 3.5 it's still a struggle to get him to smile for photos, but he is such an extrovert!

My first kid ... so easy to get him to laugh as a baby.

Second kid... nope he's such a serious baby. He does laugh but it takes a lot of extra effort. Most of the time he gives us a pity laugh!

I was talking about this to a friend of mine and she says she thinks my second kid is an extrovert because he needs more simulation to get excited.

I thought that was an interesting theory. I'm going to take a poll!

I know most people don't know if their kids are introverts or extroverts yet but maybe take a guess? :)
