I think no gifts are appropriate; I don't really understand celebrating the end of a marriage. I've seen multiple divorces in my own family, including my parents (mom twice) and they are always shrouded in sadness and pain. I guess maybe that's the reason for the "party?" To take their mind off things and look toward the future? I'm glad I live in Texas... My ex never had to show for court (he was incarcerated anyways)... As long as I made it public (coulda posted it on the court bulletin board if I wanted) &amp; he didn't contest it within a certain window I didn't need his signature or anything! Since he was incarcerated &amp; couldn't really say anything my attorney took REAL good care of me in regards to visitation &amp; such. After my patents divorce was finalized my mom's 55th birthday party was her "emancipation" party as she called it. The recently finalized divorce was a major theme.
