My last iPhone 5 I had to take in because the battery was terrible and would just shut off. I took it to the apple store. They replaced my phone. And this one...isn't much better! And ice done all the above mentioned things. It's so bad I'm contemplating getting an android next time.

@Mrs. Pen: my battery sucks too. Started with the update. Apple won't replace, you will have to get a new phone. They suck! I have chargers at home, at work, and in my car (that I can bring in other's houses).

@Mrs. Pen: automatic updates off on cellular? That was a huge battery suck for me on iOS 7.

@birdofafeather: @.twist.: @sunny: Yup, I close all my apps often. Keep the brightness on the lowest, turn off wi-fi search when I'm not at home, turn off bluetooth, limit the use to just texting/calls (which I shouldn't have to considering it's an iPhone and I pay for data), I shut it off at least once a day, sometimes for all night long to give it a break

@loveisstrange: that's a possibility... that update was a year ago, right? I mean I noticed from the second I got my iPhone 5 that the battery sucked in general, but this is absurd.. And my brother who upgraded at the same time from the 4 said that he noticed it was a worse battery life than the 4.

Did this happen after updating to iOS 7? There were a lot of issues with battery drain with that release. My iPad got so bad after the update that plugging it in merely stopped it from dying but didn't actually charge it. I turned off a bunch of BS and it got much better.

Here's an article that can help
http://mashable.com/2013/10/11/ios-7-battery-life/

And Apple will not replace your phone, it only had a 1 year warranty unless you purchased AppleCare for it.

Have you turned off your phone recently? Does your phone run unusually hot?

I find that I need to do a reboot every once in awhile if my phone starts to run hot.

You might be out of luck getting a replacement though. AppleCare only lasts 1 year IIRC. Some credit cards will extend the warranty an additional year if you have the right card. Most Amexes have this feature.

@birdofafeather: all of this. If all those fail, I would say you need a new phone.

are you closing down apps, turning off wifi and/or bluetooth when not in use, do you have apps scheduled to update/run in the background?

So it's been happening for awhile- but the battery on my iphone is terrible. It will not hold a charge for more than 1.5-2 hours tops. It constantly has to be plugged in so I carry a charger with me everywhere I go. It is so inconvenient. Do I go to my phone service store for this, or the apple store? Do I have any type of warranty or something that will cover the cost of getting it fixed if I bought the phone (brand new through sprint) two years ago nearly exactly?
