@mrbee: UGH. the only big one I had was messages, running 5.2 GB. So I went and deleted the last ONE message (between me and hubs- never deleted before.) I check again- STILL 5.2GB!!! So I restart my phone- and now it's all messed up. Apps I deleted days ago are back, but the photos I deleted this AM are still gone. ALL messages are back. I hate this iPhone.

UPDATE:

Just deleted pinterest, all but 2 texts (there were a lot, I hadn't cleared them since Aug or Sept), half my notes, and a few more pics I found hiding on my photo stream. The result:

"Documents and Data" WAS 8.52GB, now is 6.21GB
"Other" WAS 1.74GB, now is 1.75GB. WTF?!?!?!?!!?!?

So now I have 1.19GB free. Not good. Still have no idea what could be in documents and data or other. And of course my computer now warned me my startup disk is full. I HAVE A LOT OF PHOTOS. I already went through and deleted a bunch of my computer. This is torture. Thinking it may be time to leave Mac and get a new computer and phone.

@kjpugs: other is photos/videos sent through text messages or iMessages. I used to fill up quickly, too, but my storage drastically reduced once I deleted texts!

@Alivoo01: like the one that came with the phone? Yep. I'll clear that out and will check if it changes anything.

When my storage was hitting limit, I checked all my apps, and Pinterest was huge (not sure if you use), and apparently it had glitch where it would store cache data from what I read, and only way to clear out was to delete and re download the app.

@Danizaur: I have been backing up to my computer, because when I tried two years ago to restore from icloud I lost about 2 months even though I had backed up right before restoring. I don't trust it. And my computer doesn't have enough room to back up my phone now. Ugh. So no restoring.
@mrbee: I wouldn't say a TON but I have gone in and deleted old texts to clear space, and the space hasn't seemed to improve. I'll try that again too though.

Hey! Probably the best thing to do is save your contacts, pictures and anything you don't want to lose and do a factory restore. That will clear everything off and you can start fresh.

I know you can reduce the "other" by restoring your iPhone to its factory settings. Make sure you are backed up to iCloud first! After you restore it, it will ask you if you want to restore info from an iCloud backup or not. Just select yes. :)

That always worked for me. I don't know about the documents and data though.

Over the last two years or so, my phone has been "filling up" a lot. I have deleted and had to transfer my photos (used to have 1-2k on it) and deleted unsused apps. Well my 16GB iphone has nearly 8GB as "Documents and Data" (8.52GB) and "Other" (1.74GB). I have NO IDEA what these could be! I can't have more than 300 ish pictures on my iphone now before I can't take any more. I have no idea what they could be! And with a husband who works nights/weekends and a 3 month old, it's impossible to get to the apple store. Any advice on what it could be and how to clear it out? (I have less than a GB free, only 2 songs on there, and currently my apps and pictures are very low.) I take SO MANY pics and am fine to transfer them over it's just a lot earlier than I think I should have to. Help? (My Mac is now pretty much "full" too but that's another issue... ugh.)
