Sorry for just now following up, guys! I got my period on day 39. It was the most horrific day of my life. Things are getting a little better but LORD HAVE MERCY.

Anyway, I didn't start charting - womp womp. I am just too lazy! I do need to see my doctor though. I hate being on the pill but this stuff is bonkers.

@daniellemybelle: Haha OK I get that. We pretty much did the same thing as far as stacking the deck against it.

And yeah, I do feel like PMS is worse when your cycle is longer and the period that comes after is worse too. Like, thanks for stressing me out that extra week AND giving me killer cramps. It's like your uterus is extra mad at you for not getting pregnant.

My cycle was even wackier than that. Sometimes I would go 60 days or more without (I'd always been like that since I first got my period and have been checked and every doctor told me there was nothing to worry about... which looking back it seems like a problem!) Regardless, we ended up getting pregnant on our first try. I also felt like the longer the cycle, the worse the PMS but maybe that was all in my head :)

Thanks everyone! Just FYI that we are now on CD37 and counting... Bah. Does a long cycle make you have the worst PMS ever? I'm an emotional mess!

I really do feel like I need to bite the bullet and start charting for my own peace of mind. I can be a worrier, and knowing what is going on my body will probably outweigh the hassle of temping and all that.

@Foodnerd81: Oh, I know that a period tracker is not birth control. :) I did hope tracking my period would loosely help prevent but that's out the window. We are using the withdrawal method to stack the deck against conceiving right now, but if we got pregnant, we'd be excited (although freaked out too). We're just not ready to officially try.

@looch: Acupuncture is covered under my new insurance and I've been thinking of trying it. I heard it helps with ovarian cysts, which I have. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think that your cycle isn't as irregular as it feels... I had periods from 28 days to 38 days depending on the month and we got pregnant on our third cycle!

I agree, I would start charting temps. Another option is to see an acupuncturist, they can often regulate cycles with herbs and their magic needles...it worked for me.

Since it is obviously concerning to you, I would advocate charting temps next cycle. I expected them to be really irregular, from your note, but they really don't look that bad at all (except that last 2). You aren't even that late, I don't think, so they only thing you can do is sit and wait, and test every few days or so (or you know, before you go out to the bar!). The thing I like about charting is I know when I ovulate late, so I expect my period late and don't get this mind f*ck every month.
And, I just have to point out, a basic period tracker is NOT natural family planning, especially since you obviously have an irregular cycle. I think it would be less effective than pull out. It sounds like you are sort of kind of avoiding but fine if it happens, so do what you want but if you were serious about avoiding, you can't rely on a period tracker. Just had to throw it out there :)

@daniellemybelle: I agree with Junebug. It's only the last two that are wacky. And it could be anything. Cycles can get peeved by looking at them funny, sometimes. You could always try charting next cycle and if it's not for you, you'll know.

@junebugmama: Thanks for your reply! I don't know whether to be excited or freaked out to hear that I could be pregnant even with a negative HPT. We aren't trying... just not super actively avoiding. This might be TMI, but we often use the withdrawal method, and I'm nearly positive that we did every time this cycle. I know it's not fail-safe but that's why I don't feel like I'm pregnant.

Anyway, is the reason that I would ovulate late this cycle because of my short cycle last go-around? Or are they unrelated?

Thanks again!

Cycle 7 and 8 are the only real concern. Obviously you probably ovulated late or not at all and that's why you're period is probably late now. It doesn't mean you're not pregnant though. Could just be to early depending on how late you ovulated. If you hit 45 days, then call the doc and get checked out. I had a similar experience when I went off and ended up getting a positive pregnancy test on cycle day 54.

I decided to go off birth control because I did not enjoy the side effects, and I love it so far (except the day I get my period). I have been using a basic period tracker app to do a version of Natural Family Planning. Unfortunately, my period has become less and less predictable the longer I am off birth control.

Cycle 1 - 28 days
Cycle 2 - 27 days
Cycle 3 - 28 days
Cycle 4 - 31 days
Cycle 5 - 33 days
Cycle 6 - 29 days
Cycle 7 - 23 days
Cycle 8 - 35 days and counting...

At first, I thought my cycle was just getting progressively longer and would even out. But then I got short again! And now I'm having the longest one ever. I took a pregnancy test just to rule that out and it was negative. What's going on?!

I am probably paranoid, but having an irregular cycle worries me that we'll have a hard time TTC when we're ready. I'm thinking about seeing the doctor about this, but maybe I should bite the bullet and start charting first to see if I can tell if I'm ovulating and when... Guh.

Is my cycle crazy or is this more normal than I think?
