@babynumber1: I did not know this! Good info. I was going to stop cloth at home for diaper changes but after thinking about it I'm going to keep it up to counter the disposable wipes used on her during the day at daycare.

Yes hopefully it will get better. What I do now is as soon as we get home I use a cloth wipe with warm water and then put the diaper ointment on her.

@Mrsbells: My LO also had this issue last week when she started daycare. I honestly think its because they have to wipe much more throughly than we do at home. They explained that they have to use 4 wipes for just a pee diaper by the state standards. They said that they often see redness when they first start due to so much irritation from wiping. We just started using cream after her diaper changes to counter this.

@Mrsbells: ugh. I'm sorry. I hope it gets better. My son is sensitive to all sorts of stuff (I break out like crazy depending on laundry detergent). So I would have freaked out on them if they weren't using what I brought.

thanks! It turns out they werent using the wipes I took in for her!!! They all seem to think they are doing me a big favor by using their wipes. But I explained that her wipes are senstive ones and are better for her butt and they are using a generic brand on her poor little behind. I complained about this today and they assured me they will use my wipes from now on.

@Clementine: Thanks this morning I switched her diapers, I asked them t give me back the huggies i had brought in and replaced it with the pampers swaddlers. I told them about the redness and bumps and they asked if I wante them to use one of their rash creams but I said no as long as they were wiping thoroughly that should be fine. I am ordering another jar of angel baby bottom balm and I will take that to them once I receive it.

oh no, I'm so sorry! I can't even imagine after going through the stress of first day of daycare to then find her little bum irritated.

I, too agree, that you should switch her back to pampers and ask them to pay more attention to wipe thoroughly and use cream. I hope it clears up soon!

I agree with the straight forward approach. Just mention that her little bum seemed irritated and ask that they be extra careful with wiping and apply cream until it clears up. Also switch her back to the pampers since I think there is a good chance she could just be reacting to the diaper switch.

Sounds to me like not wiped properly either.

I like Rubies' approach to tell them what you noticed and ask them what they think it is. I bet inside they'll think it wasn't a good wipe too.

Alternatively you could tell what you noticed and just straightforward request that they be more careful with the wiping.

We supply our own wipes. so its the same wipes we have always been using. The only new thing is the diaper. I have used the huggies diaper once before but preferred the pampers. I only took the huggies because I had lots of it around. I will take a pack of pampers swaddlers tomorrow and will definitely talk to them.
I will ask the doctor about allergies but I doubt it since I havent changed anything in my diet and its just too coincidental that it showed up after her first day of day care!

That doesn't sound like fun at all. I'm sorry. We have been fighting mild diaper rash forever (even with cloth diapers). I would definitely talk to them tomorrow.

My son's crack has always been red because of dairy and soy allergies. So I wouldn't rule out allergies.

How often is she being changed? Our daycare changes every 2 hours unless asleep. You can request more frequent changes. It could be the diapers, I wouldn't fully rule it out if you haven't use Huggies on her before. Will your daycare apply cream? If so, take it along tomorrow so they can stay on top of the rash.

Do you supply wipes or does the daycare provide them? Maybe she's having a reaction to the wipes if they are not the usual ones.

I'm so sorry - it must be so frustrating. Can you ask the daycare tomorrow what they might think it is? Call doctor? Also, it *could* be a fluke. Or, tomorrow, mention to the daycare that LO has a rash/bumps on her bum so could they please be extra careful and gentle on LO's tush?

Today was LO's first day at daycare. When I came home I pumped first and then changed her diaper and there seemed to like slight tiny bumps on her butt that looked like a heat rash. She has never had any bumps like this. So i used a wet wash cloth to wipe her and I put angel baby bottom balm. But when DH came home I wanted to show him and when we looked at her butt clearly in the light it looks a bit red especially along the crack of her butt. I am so upset. Why would this happen after one day at day care?
They gave me a sheet of how many times they changed her so there is no reason why this should happen. The only two things I can think of is, she usually wears cloth diapers at home and even when she wears disposables she usually wears pampers swaddlers but since i had boxes of huggies that i received as a gift I just sent some of the huggies to the daycare. Maybe her butt reacted to the diaper? but why is it only along the crack?
DH thinks they didnt wipe her butt properly, especially since she is dark skin (DH is west- african) and LO is the only African american baby in her daycare. He thinks they didnt wipe her properly because sometimes she looks clean but if you wipe you can see poop on the wipe.
I am so upset I dont know what to do. I dont even want to take her back
