we started casually at 18 months with charlie and he was totally ready. i think it depends on the child.

olive wasn't ready until she was 3.

back in the olden days when i was a young un, i was potty trained by 14 months when my brother was born because cloth diapers hand washed aka no choice!

I trained myself at 14 months. DD is 2 and not ready. Every kid is different and ready is ready. So if she is showing signs, try it! If it doesn't work and she isn't as ready as you thought, go back to diapers and try again later.

It would have been for my daughter, who was on the later end at 2y9m, but I think there are some kids that are just ready to start earlier!

LO was ready and successful at 20 months. If they show signs of readiness, at least give it a try.

Oh Crap! Potty Training book suggests that under two years is the ideal time to train, and my ped said that too. If they're showing signs, go for it!

@BabyBoecksMom: I would do it now while there's interest. A dry overnight diaper is a great sign. I feel like when they are younger they are more likely to just go along with the training rather than fight about it. Good luck!

My DD started doing the same thing around that age, now she yells "poopy! poopy!" whenever she has a dirty diaper (even if it's just pee). We got her both a potty chair and a ring for the big potty, and she likes sitting on them, but we haven't gotten much further toward potty training. She totally gets that you sit down, wipe, and flush...but we haven't yet gotten her to understand what ELSE you're supposed to do on the potty! She hasn't once gone to the bathroom there, even after countless times sitting there. I think she's just still too young to put it all together. So for now, we're just encouraging her to do what she does and when she finally goes on the potty, we'll make a huge deal about it and probably start more actively working toward training. She just turned 21 months so I don't want to rush it, but also don't want to hold her back once she is ready.

I don't think it's "too" early but you will probably still need to help him aim and pull up/down his pants for a while? But definitely beats changing dirty diapers. Good luck!!

It's not too early. DD was potty trained at 15 months and I've known a few kids while working in daycares that were potty trained at 18 months. Go for it! It's easier when they want to.

I think it helps that they have an older sibling to mimic. E is showing some interest, so I brought out C's little potty and am getting him to sit on it anytime C goes. Why not introduce it!?!

I don't have any expectations of him right now, but I see us being out of diapers way sooner this time around :)

We started at 6 months! Ha. We really started being consistent around 15 months. At 20 months, she has 1-2 accidents per week.

I say go for it!! Her school encourages potty training as soon as they can walk (or 15 months), whichever comes first.

This travel potty has been a lifesaver. Fits in a backpack or big purse. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=potette+plus+2-1&tag=googhydr-20&index=baby&hvadid=61205319923&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5015051854584164011&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_1zh34pxyg0_b

I think it's totally possible! Back in the days, 18 months seemed more to be the norm for potty training vs 2-3 years old. My cousins, my brother, and I were all trained well before 18 months. That's why my mom is always nagging at me to potty train DS who just turned 2.

My son started waking up dry at 10 or 11 months so we started putting him on the potty. He got the hang of it quickly! It's not consistent, and he can't walk there yet, but its good to at least get him familiar with it at this age so it won't be so foreign later on.

it can be done for sure, especially if she shows signs, and as long as you don't' set the expectations too high I bet you could at least get the idea going! We introduced potty around then and she would go before bath.

I met a mom that had her 18 month old potty trained - no pull ups or anything. They just used the potty frequently bc of her small bladder but her daughter did not have accidents. Seems so young but it can be done

DD2 is starting to come up to us, grab at her diaper and nod her head (meaning she's letting us know she peed) after she pees in the diaper and is also waking with a dry overnight diaper.

I feel like it's way too early to start potty training, but maybe we could start introducing her to the potty? It feels like we did this so long ago with DD2 ha!
