At the advice of our pediatrician, we did CIO at 4 months for his final night waking (which was 4/5am) and it worked like a charm. Within a week he was instead sleeping 12-13 hours straight.
I know you're wondering about going to sleep, not staying asleep, but I would think it's the same.
Good luck :-)

We sleep trained just after 4 months. I do think she was probably too young since she kept having relapses until she was about 5 months, but I'm still glad we did it. We were just spending way too much time bouncing her to sleep for every nap and bedtime. Now she's 6.5 months and is super at putting herself to sleep.

It totally depends on the baby. LO1 was sleep trained with CIO at 4 months but she already had a soothing mechanism (her fingers). No matter what, LO2 couldn't be sleep trained until 8 months!! I tried every month but he was just hysterical. 8 months was our magic number.

We tried at 16 weeks and it didn't work for us at that point. However, I know it does work for some babies at that age so I think it is worth the try. We really only had to try for one night to figure out that she wasn't ready. We tried again at around 5.5 months and it worked very well at that point. I have no regrets about how we did it. Good luck!

We sleep trained at 14 weeks. I was at a breaking point and our family was so much happier and healthier once we were getting more regular seep. Key for us was total consistency. Good luck.

I agree with the "depends on the baby" crowd. It seems to be the perfect time for many, but it was too young for us. She freaked and got clingy, defeating the whole purpose of sleep training. It was a hairy month with motor milestones and the start of teething, so I focused on good sleep habits.

Good luck with whatever you do! I hope peace will be restored to your home soon.

We didn't do it, but our doctor told us at her month well visit with my first that we could do CIO at that point. Hugs mama. The balancing act of getting both kids to sleep is no joke

I think it depends, you know your baby best and if they have the ability to self soothe at that age, it could be a viable option.

We did it earlier than 4 months but to be honest I don't know if 20 minutes (on the short end) is that bad for a baby to fall asleep! But of course you have toddler to deal with so that doesn't make it a clean 20 min. I just don't know if you can expect thaaaaat much shorter even if you sleep train. But I hope it does work!

I did by 4 months with my third baby - sometimes it's just what you have to do with you have other LOs to take care of. I did modified CIO and I checked on her often. Luckily, it only took 20 minutes total the first night and the second night, maybe 10?

Thanks for the feedback. It feels young, but I feel like I get no time with LO1 because LO2 is such a high maintanence sleeper. Sleep training so young doesn't seem fair to LO2, but not doing it doesn't seem fair to LO1. Ugh.

@TiredmommaMD: we sleep trained just before 4 months. It felt so young to me but nothing else was working and she would cry whether we were rocking her or putting her in her crib. I actually hadn't even though about that plus a toddler... It's young but I say you know your baby best.

I am losing my mind. LO2 takes 20-30 minutes of rocking to go to sleep, naps and nighttime. I miss putting LO1 to bed because i am stuck rocking LO2 to bed. For nap time, LO1 can only keep herself entertained for about 10 minutes, then will come and find me trying to put LO2 down and in the process will accidentally wake her up and we start all over. I cannot keep doing this. How young is too young for sleep training?
