But I like to have it for when she's just making noises so I know when she's awake. There was a short period of time where occasionally he'd get a leg stuck, and that's the kind of thing I'd want to fix right away, vs. seeing if he can self-soothe. Now, I can usually tell when he's just fussing before settling down vs. up for good based on whether he's sitting up or not... if I can see that he's crying but still lying down, he's pretty much always tired enough to get himself back to sleep. I can hear our boy throughout our entire house during the day just fine. </p> <p>We got a sound only monitor when we moved our son to his nursery at night instead of the pack and play in our bedroom. Initially I didn't buy one. However we traveled to my sister's wedding and I kicked myself for not bringing a monitor with us since we were staying in her FI's family's mansion. </p> <p>I ended up buying one from the second hand store to have at home, for when I have to run out to my car, for when we are traveling on weekends, and just in case. It's also helpful for when DH is home and watching TV, since he puts it right next to him to make sure he hears DS. </p> <p>I wouldn't buy an expensive one, and I'd only buy a movement monitor if I had a premie or LO with health issues. If I'm in the kitchen or living room, I might not be able to hear the baby but I'm not sure. I was just wondering if anybody decided to not get a monitor at all, or is this considered a must have item </p>
