It was handy to have the steam and purée in one place. I would try to borrow one to try or buy one used if you want one. They make such small portions (unless that is OK with you) that it took a long time to make large batches for freezing, which we did. And my daughter ate purees for such a short period of time that it wasn't worth it (someone bought it off my registry, though).
