Short active life, tons are available on my local bst. It's the sort of thing I'd spend 15 bucks on but some are like 80 bucks on Amazon. That's dumb. It's basically the only baby activity thing that doesn't have gross motor issues / container-baby-issues (too much time in swings, bouncers, car seats, strollers, etc is not good for muscle development and coordination). We had two, one in each area of the house. We added a bunch of toys to it and changed them out regularly. My 14 month old is just now losing interest in the piano part, but I would say from when he was sitting up (6 months ish) until 12 months, he loved to just sit and bang on the piano, pick it up, etc. And when he was littler, we used the mat for tummy time, and when sitting but not crawling he like to sit, bat at the toys/chew on them/etc. I got mine at Aldi for $20 and TOTALLY worth it! We lost the arches and decided to get a new one for LO3. There seem to be more options now so we chose one that looked like it might get used for longer. Lo also like the Sassy one at daycare. I definitely think they are worth it. These are easily found second hand at consignment shops and thrift stoeres. I got ours on Buy Nothing. No way I'd pay for a brand new one. A regular blanket on the floor is just as fascinating for a baby. They don't need toys dangling in their face. But for that 6 weeks or so it got a lot of use! And we'll save it for future kid(s), so I still think it was worth it. She was also later to sitting and crawling, so she like it till probably 9 months old. My second one could have cared less and would just cry, so it got way less use. And she was sitting at 4.5 months and crawling soon after, so it didn't get much use from us.
