@hilsy85: We took one this last weekend and I think it was worth it. It was just 2 hours, and they went over CPR as well as what to do if the baby - or, toddler really - starts choking.... I hope we never have to use it, but I am glad we both know what to do just in case.

I took an infant CPR and first aid class when LO was two months. Totally worth it in my mind! You never know what scary situation can occur, so it gives me peace of mind knowing that I can respond appropriately.

@highwire: I agree.

We are definitely taking infant CPR. I would skip even my childbirth class before skipping the CPR class.

We haven’t taken ours yet but my mom is an instructor and will be doing one for us once I go on maternity leave the week after next. I got certified a few years ago but I definitely would feel more comfortable with a refresher. I think it’s extremely important.

Yes, my mom is an instructor, so she gave us a course before DD was born. I'm glad we have that knowledge. It makes me feel more prepared for the "just in case."

I think it's extremely important and necessary. In the rare case that there's an emergency, those few minutes before emergency services arrive can make a life or death difference.

Sure you can "learn" it from youtube or a book, but there is noone there to check your technique and make sure that you're doing everything correctly.

SO and I, as well as future LO's grandma are all signed up for a class next month. It's only $25, and i think it will be one of the best $25 we've spent.

My husband and I are both about to sign up for a course. We both are already CPR certified but we're both a little iffy still when it comes to babies. I'm sure we would do the right thing but I want it to be second nature for us so we can remain calm and controlled. I especially want a refresher as a just-in-case because we are planning on doing baby-led weaning when the time comes. I know gagging is common and choking is a rarity but I feel better knowing what to do just in case. I personally think it's better to take the course and never need it than to be in an emergency situation without knowing what to do.

I haven't taken mine yet and LO is 5 months! DH and I are going to try to take it soon, especially with LO starting solids next month. We did pay for our nanny to take one--she took it with Tribeca Parenting.

@hilsy85: I took one here in the city if you're interested! I was a lifeguard for years so I kind of knew it already, but I was happy DH was there to learn. She also covered the following: choking and which foods are more hazardous, burns, car seat installment, and just general words of wisdom from another mom. It was only 2 hours, so it wasn't all day or anything.

I took an infant CPR refresher course and it was great! One week later LO was choking like crazy on a vitamin d drop (i know, i am a horrible mom) and i felt more calm dealing with the situation. Seriously, best $50 ever...and it was for 2 parents. Highly recommend at least a refresher course.
