I have done two cycles of Clomid, one at 50mg and one at 100mg. For me, the side effects have been minimal, but neither cycle has resulted in ovulation for me (PCOS), so maybe that's why. The first cycle, I did have an annoying headache for several days, but it wasn't unbearable. This current cycle, I had ridiculous hot flashes from about the third pill (CD 5) and they continued for about a week. But, had the pills led to ovulation for me, the side effects would be totally worth it.

I had horrible side effects with Clomid (bad mood swings, major hot flashes at night, headaches) but still kept with it (even though each day I swore I'd never take it again) because I knew it could be successful. I had two and then three follies the two months I took it. Didn't work for us because we later found out IVF was our only option for tubal reasons, but I would have given it one more month if necessary.

I'm not 100% against it even though it was bad for me b/c it has worked well for others and doesn't seem to bother everyone. But I would caution anyone thinking of taking it about the side effects.

Clomid did not bother me much. I did 50mg for 3 months and didn't get pregnant but I felt like it was worth it (IVF did work for me).

I was lucky enough to never have any side effects on Clomid. So much so that I thought that it wasn't working for me. I guess it did work because we got our BFP on our third cycle. Multiples wouldn't be bad for us, either. Our first ultrasound is this week to see what we've got growing in there!

I was never on Clomid but reading the side effects did worry me when I saw my RE. I was given femera so I didn't have to worry.

@CupQuakeWalk: sounds like you will get some better answers with the RE! you have to do what you are comfortable with so definitely ask what else you can do. however, that risk of multiples isn't going anywhere - I think it's about the same on femara (maybe slightly lower but not much) and it goes up with all other treatments. but once you are monitored you can manage it better.

I've done a ton of clomid. 4 cycles of it for LO#1 and about to start my fourth for LO#2. and yeah it sucks. the vision is the worst for me too (I think it causes my headaches) and the night sweats, gah. I ovulate on my own now but I still need the help from clomid. I'm about to hit the limit of what my RE is comfortable with for lifetime usage - only 2 more cycles - but I'm willing to power through because it worked for us once before.

I really wanted to try femara but my clinic doesn't prescribe it :( I have heard good things about side effects!

I hated Clomid. The breast tenderness is what did me in. Femera was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more awesome! Granted, it didn't work for us, but the side effects were much more mild for me!

@CupQuakeWalk: I'm so sorry :crying: I was wondering how you were getting on with it and curious about side effects as I have a meeting with my fertility clinic in a few weeks and I anticipate they will suggest either Clomid or Femera. I'm sure you'll get much further with an RE as they will do more complex tests to get to the root of it. Good luck, I hope this cycle is THE cycle :)

@sandy: my side effects the first cycle were mild. Some headaches and some mood swings. This 2nd cycle though? Wow. I feel like an insane person. My headaches are non-stop, all day, my breasts are HOT feeling and heavy too. My moods are weepy and sad. And worst of all by far, I am having visions issues. My doctor warned me of all these things and said they're normal, but I was no naive to think i'd be OK with it. I am not OK with it, at all.

I am not even 100% sure that anovulation is my issue. I wish my doctor did any monitoring and I can't wait to meet my RE next week.

@emg86: oh my word! That sounds so awful and incredibly painful! And I'm sure the emotional toll it took on you was just as painful...I'm so sorry :(

@Tidybee: so glad it worked for you.

@CupQuakeWalk: that sucks clomid wasn't a good fit for you. I'm thinking of you and hoping you get your BFP soon! This process is so frustrating!

I had INTENSE hunger. I'd wake up in the middle of the night feeling like i hadn't eaten in days. I'd be hungry little 15 minutes after eating til I was stuffed. And then I seemed to put on water weight really quickly and I bloated terribly. I'm a pretty thin person and it was very noticeable...none of my pants would button. It would go away during my period, but then it came back as soon as I took the Clomid again. I also got the ovulation cramping. I took it as that as a sign Clomid was doing what it was supposed to. I was monitored and had 1 nice egg the first round and we did an IUI but that didn't work. The second time, I released 2 eggs but only one fertilized. We didn't do an IUI that time.

@sandy: I had migraines that went to a whole different level...like I would stay in bed for 3-4 days cause they were horrible. Nausea and vomiting all day long, swelling and retaining water, completely exhausted 24/7. When Clomid failed to work I would end up with horrible and painful ovarian cysts--one of them burst at one point and it was incredibly painful. And then the emtional part of it all...I was depressed and super moody cause I felt so sick. I ended up resigning from work cause I felt that sick.

I didn't have side effects on clomid, or at least very bad side effects. But I'm a big proponent of listening to your body and if I had reacted poorly to clomid I might not do it again.

The side effects are tough. Fortunately, I was only on it for 2 months before getting pregnant. I definitely remember being burnt out and sick of the side effects, but it got me DD so I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I didn't have any side effects in Clomid. I also was on it "just to cover all bases." But I am a firm believer in doing what you and your body is comfortable with when coming to treatments. I hated going through a fresh IVF cycle. My body still isn't back on track. I know I can never do that again. Maybe that means I won't have biological children if my next FET doesn't work. I'm ok with that. But I can't handle having my ovaries stretched again.

So, screw Clomid! There are plenty of other treatments out there. Or maybe you are already KU and it won't matter. I'm hoping for the latter! :D

Because of the side effects, I honestly don't think I'll be returning to another month. I pray I either get pregnant and we find another solution to this (Femera maybe?)

Anyone else refuse to be on Clomid? Also the risk of multiples scares the bajeezus out of me ;)
