@edelweiss: My usual 7-730 sleeper went through a couple of weeks of 530 wakeups... it was a phase and while our "schedule" was off for a few weeks, he now sleeps 7-6, 7-7 regularly... "THIS TOO SHALL PASS"

@edelweiss: It will!! I never thought it would in March and April, sleep was (seemed!) worse then newborn days then, and what it has evolved to now, is hard to believe, but so awesome.....your LO will get there :)

@NovBaby1112: thanks, that is actually helpful because at least i feel like i'm not doing anything "wrong" (or at least i hope not) when it comes to his bedtime, naps, etc. we've also been leaving him in the crib until it's time to wake up--he fusses and cries, but like you said isn't hysterical. it's such a *great* way to wake up in the morning! actually, not really :)

@kml636: it's so hard to know what to do, and ultimately there's probably no magic solution (if only!). sigh. good luck!

@edelweiss: We finally just got by it, maybe within the last two weeks....! She sttn from 7pm to 6:15am now (no wakings for feedings). We had been giving her paci 5-6am to get more sleep out of her, and it worked, and eventually she just got to sleeping until just after 6am, and that is fine by me!

@edelweiss: we ended up sleep training at 6.5 months and got her down to 1 night feed/waking, BUT even after sleep training she was up and ready to start the day anywhere between 5 and 6, even though her normal wake up time is 6:30. We just sort of rode it out and figured it was a phase or she was just an early bird. I researched the heck out of early morning wakings and it was so overwhelming to figure out the possible cause- too late bedtime, too early bedtime, too many naps, not enough naps, overtired, undertired, first nap too close to wake up time, last nap too close to bedtime, LOL, you get the picture. So we just started leaving her in her crib until at least 6am, even if she woke before that. sometimes she will play, other times she will fuss, but we do not get her before then, unless she is hysterical which hasnt happened yet. and actually, the last few mornings she has put herself back to sleep and sleeping until her normal wake up of 6:30, so hoping that continues. anyways, not sure if this helps or not but hopefully its just a phase for your little man and will pass soon!

@edelweiss: I really have no advice because LO is now waking at 5:30. I'm trying to get her to stretch it to 6, I guess I could not feed her until 6? IDK, because I'm still trying to get her to give up her night feed. SIGH.

@NovBaby1112: my 4.5 month old is doing this right now--waking up anywhere from 4-5am when his "real" wakeup time is 5.30. i was wondering if this turned out to be a phase for your LO if you did something to try and help the situation? i feel like keeling over and dying this morning from fatigue and discombobulation.

@kml636: @Beebug: i was wondering, how long did this phase last for your LOs? since my LO was 3 months, he's either waken up at his normal time or as much as 1.5 hours early, but lately it's been consistently early and it's brutal. his normal wakeup time is 5.30, so when he wakes up around 4.30, it's a bit too late to feed him because it will throw the day's schedule off, and bringing him into bed does not put him to sleep (we just get to hear his crying very up close and personal instead of across the apartment).

@NovBaby1112: I've thought about a dream feed but I try to go to bed around 9 anyway and I think if I tried to wake her then she might not go back down. Plus I don't want her to get used to eating at that time. I'm hoping since she progressed from waking at 3:30 to waking at 4:30 that she'll just keep on stretching her sleep time as she gets bigger and eventually sleep through the night. This morning I let her lay in the bed for a solid ten minutes after she was done eating and then she did go back in her crib for another hour and a half! Phew!

@kml636: @MamaMoose: must be a 5/6 month old thing!

@kml636: ahhhh 6 sounds glorious! how long did it last for you?

@MamaMoose: wow, awesome she is sleeping that long! but i hear ya, i can never get *really* comfortable with LO in bed. have you tried a dreamfeed? maybe that would push her 430/5 wakeup to a more reasonable hour...

last night she was up at 5am and wouldn't go back down until 6, which sucked because we had to wake her up at 6:45 to get her ready to go to the sitters. ugh!

My Nov baby is going through something similar! She goes down around 7:30 and used to wake up to eat at 3:30 and then go back to sleep. Now she doesn't wake up until 4:30 or 5 and at that point she thinks it's time to get up! The only way to get her to sleep more is to nurse her in bed and then just let her snuggle with me. It sucks because I am uncomfortable and don't really sleep but at least I can close my eyes.

Yes. My toddler sleeps until 6 on a late day, 5 or earlier on a bad day. Some of it is that she eats like a bird and wakes up hungry, which sucks. Most of it is that she just doesn't need much sleep, and is eager to get up and get the party started.

I don't think you can do much to fix these things. They'll sleep when they sleep.

Interesting...so it seems like it might be just a phase that will hopefully pass soon! Last night was awful- she woke up at 430am and would.not.go.back to sleep until 630am. It alternated between playing/rolling/crying. I wish she would sleep with us!!! We brought her to bed again and she just smiled at us and thought it was play time lol. This morning though she finally learned how to roll belly to back and is rolling both ways like crazy, so maybe that has something to do with it? Either way, hoping it passes soon!

We are a little ahead of you (Oct baby!) and just went through this awfulness in April. I just rode it and followed her lead on the early wake up/early nap/thrown off day. We had sleep trained her before this "happened" so I was sad to lose that it seemed! It passed and now she's attempting sttn after going back to 7-7 sleeping w/ one quick waking for bottle. Hope it passes soon!

My 1-year old still starts waking quite early -- like often starts crying around 5 AM. We bring her in bed with us, and she falls back asleep with us until 7:30 or so. If we don't bring her in bed with us, she stays awake. It's not the best solution, but it gives us all more rest, so it's our solution for now. She has gone through random stretches of staying in her crib alone all the way until 7 AM, but that hasn't happened for us recently.

@MamaBehr: lol, she has an erly bedtime too...usually between 6 and 7 depending on when she woke up from last nap...yea, I've heard that putting to bed late does not equal sleeping in as well, plus I am scared to mess with bed times! But my dh thinks she goes to bed way too early and is always telling me that's why she is waking up early...men!

@dagret: I sometimes try that, but she must think me and dh are too much fun because she literally spends the whole time staring at us, laughing, and swatting my face haha...I wish she would just sleep peacefully with us!!!

@tinyperson: sounds like you are going through something similar! Must be a phase for this age and hopefully it passes us quickly! Yea, I can't get rid of the night feed either, even though LO is a big girl, she is genuinely hungry and I just not feel right trying to get her to go all night without anything. I just wish she would go back to sleep after it!

Yes, yes, yes! LO is 5 months on Sunday, and we put her to bed around 6:30 or 7. She sleeps till about 2 or so, I feed her, then she'll go back down till 5 or 5:15. I can put the soother in, but I only get 15-20 minutes until she wants it again, I keep doing that until she starts chatting and blowing raspberries :). She's still in our room at this point.

Last night, just to see what would happen I gave her the soother at 2, and she slept till 4:30. I fed her, and thought shed go back down, but she was chatting and grinning away. Brought her downstairs and played, then took her back up around 5:40 and got her down - she was up ten minutes later. DH took her for 30 minutes so I could get a nap, then I fed her and she's been napping on me since 7:30!

I can't really omit the night feed - she's a tiny girl. And the
Ped is still worried about weight gain...

What to do! It does throw the AM schedule right off!

@novbaby1112 We put our kiddos to bed early. I think when he was six months old it was probably 6 pm ish. We recently pushed it back to the late late bedtime of 7 pm hahaha. Whenever I try the "put to bed later" method it backfires on me. They sleep worse and wake up earlier.

I'm not right now, but I feel your pain! I don't remember how we stopped DS doing it, but at 14 months he makes it to 6:45 almost every day.
Maybe stop going in there? I do that if DS wakes up before 6 am, I know he's still tired so I just let him fuss for a little and he often goes back to sleep.

LO goes to sleep on her own at night around 6:30pm. She sleeps pretty good until 3/4am and then it is all down hill. I feed her during her first wake up around 3/4, and lately she goes into the crib awake after because she doesnt fall back asleep nursing at that time. She ends up putting herself back to sleep, only to wake up again around 4:30am, 5am, 5:30am, etc. I don't understand it. She can put herself back to sleep, but for some reason at these early times she just cries, so I end up nursing her (which i know is just probably making the situation worse) but it is the easiest thing to do that early to get her back down. Today I let her fuss from 5:30 on and just ended getting her up at 6:15 because it was clear she wasnt going back to sleep.

Are any other mama's going through this? Shes almost 6 months FYI. What can I do to help stop this? I know she is still tired because she wakes up crying. She was down for her first nap at only 7:45am! which of course throws off the whole day....anyone else going through this torture? anyone??! lol
