My niece has always been quite serious. She had some great "I'm not impressed" faces as an infant. Even now, at 3 she still gets in her serious moods, especially when she's drawing or trying to build something with her blocks. We joke it's her daddy's "engineer face."

@illumina: haha totally looks like she's judging everything going on!

My daughter is extremely serious. She has been since birth, and we all call her an "old soul". Her dad and I are fairly serious people, so I'm not entirely surprised. She has the most hilarious "conversations" with wrinkled brow, flared nostrils, the whole bit.

My DS was very serious as an infant and DH was sad that he would so rarely laugh or smile. Somewhere along the lines he developed this great laugh and now he is so much fun, always laughing or smiling.

@illumina: What a cute serious baby!

DS is quite serious, although as he gets older he lets out more smiles and laughs. He's 8 months now.

At 3 months we had photos done and he is not smiling in one of them. We call him serious Isaac. He likes to study things and look at them.

@illumina: Oh my goodness, so cute. It is like they really don't appreciate the indignity of relying on others to do everything for then, isn't it? I always joke that she just has deep thoughts.

It appears that way in pictures, though in everyday life he's a very giggly silly guy! Then the camera comes out and the smile disappears as he focuses on it, and the result is a bunch of majorly serious, pensive baby pictures! Same with Facetime-we'll be having a silly good time and I'll try to call my mom so she can see, and as soon as he sees the computer screen he clamps up, lol!

@illumina: oh my goodness, that is such a cute face!

@Cherrybee: yes! Everyone comment how S looks so serious- since birth she's had this frowning face she does all the time! Like you said about E, I think she's frustrated at not being able to do much yet.

@Sapphiresun: Oh my word, that's EXACTLY my E - only without the boob. In fact, she won't even take her bottle in my arms now, she likes to sit in her chair where she can look at me and hold her bottle (more like wrench it out of her own mouth with her crazy uncontrolled hands!). She screams if I try to carry her facing in, she has to be facing out.

She smiles and laughs when you imitate her noises but she gets mad if you don't do them right!! So funny!

@SugarplumsMom: I think E will cheer up once she gets moving. She's desperate to be independent. She gets so frustrated! I don't think she likes being a baby!

My LO has the best laugh but in between laughs she is ridiculously serious. Strangers comment on it all the time. I think she just loves watching people.

At that age, yes. My DD was fairly serious and it took a long time for her to actually belly laugh. But once she got mobile ... oy!

@Cherrybee: @Foodnerd81: Yeah, pretty much as soon as the "4th trimester" was over she became an independent little grump. It's hard to explain to people that she's just NOT cuddly. Sitting beside me leaned up by the corner of the couch like the photo (which I took down since I realized this wasn't a gold post) is pretty much her favourite position. She will also sometimes accept sitting on your lap, facing out. But loathe be the person who tries to cradle her without promptly presenting a boob.

I totally have one. People always joke that she is judging them with that look she gives. She is super sweet and fun but a little reserved with strangers. While < 1 yr she screamed for Santa and things like that, but she's warming up some now that she is older and in part-time daycare.

E does smile - she gives me huge grins when I go to get her in the morning and she giggles when we have shrieking competitions - but generally, she is quite a serious little girl. We put her in her jumperoo and she was fairly underwhelmed! Lol!

Does anyone else have a serious little soul?
