@Mrs. High Heels: I agree, wish coconut aminos came in a larger bottle!! I've been making this 2-3 times per month and using tons of it:

This is what I found:

The Whole30 Program Rules

Yes: Eat real food.

Eat meat, seafood, eggs, tons of vegetables, some fruit, and plenty of good fats from fruits, oils, nuts and seeds. Eat foods with very few ingredients, all pronounceable ingredients, or better yet, no ingredients listed at all because they’re totally natural and unprocessed. Don’t worry… these guidelines are outlined in extensive detail in our free shopping list.

No: Avoid for 30 days.

More importantly, here’s what NOT to eat during the duration of your Whole30 program. Omitting all of these foods and beverages will help you regain your healthy metabolism, reduce systemic inflammation, and help you discover how these foods are truly impacting your health, fitness and quality of life.

•Do not consume added sugar of any kind, real or artificial. No maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, coconut sugar, Splenda, Equal, Nutrasweet, xylitol, stevia, etc. Read your labels, because companies sneak sugar into products in ways you might not recognize.

•Do not consume alcohol in any form, not even for cooking. (And it should go without saying, but no tobacco products of any sort, either.)

•Do not eat grains. This includes (but is not limited to) wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, rice, millet, bulgur, sorghum, amaranth, buckwheat, sprouted grains and all of those gluten-free pseudo-grains like quinoa. This also includes all the ways we add wheat, corn and rice into our foods in the form of bran, germ, starch and so on. Again, read your labels.

•Do not eat legumes. This includes beans of all kinds (black, red, pinto, navy, white, kidney, lima, fava, etc.), peas, chickpeas, lentils, and peanuts. No peanut butter, either. This also includes all forms of soy – soy sauce, miso, tofu, tempeh, edamame, and all the ways we sneak soy into foods (like lecithin).

•Do not eat dairy. This includes cow, goat or sheep’s milk products such as cream, cheese (hard or soft), kefir, yogurt (even Greek), and sour cream… with the exception of clarified butter or ghee. (See below for details.)

•Do not eat white potatoes. This is somewhat arbitrary, but if we are trying to change your habits (chips and fries) and improve the hormonal impact of your food choices, it’s best to leave white, red, purple, Yukon gold, and fingerling potatoes off your plate.

•Do not consume carrageenan, MSG or sulfites. If these ingredients appear in any form on the label of your processed food or beverage, it’s out for the Whole30.

•No Paleo-ifying baked goods, desserts, or junk foods. Trying to shove your old, unhealthy diet into a shiny new Whole30 mold will ruin your program faster than you can say “Paleo Pop-Tarts.” This means no desserts or junk food made with “approved” ingredients—no banana-egg pancakes, almond-flour muffins, flourless brownies, or coconut milk ice cream. Don’t try to replicate junk food during your 30 days! That misses the point of the Whole30 entirely.

I think I would starve!!!! :bummed:

Let me do some research. It has to be something I can get my husband on board with too. I can't handle having separate meals again like we had to when I was on a serious elimination diet while nursing. But we are both trying to be healthier so I probably talk him into it.

I've done whole 30 in the past and its a great jump start. Nomnompaleo has this thing that lays out the whole month for you and i believe paleomg has posts tagged whole 30. Its definitely super restrictive but good in a "cleansing" sense.

There are lots of whole30 challenge bloggers out there who lay out all their meals for you. It's great! I need to get back to eating whole foods after taking a few weeks off for bday parties and the like.

I wasn't willing to give up soy sauce, though! I think it makes such a minimal impact on your overall diet.

We did a whole foods diet for a month last year. It was hard, but it changed the way we ate and the way we looked at labels. I am not sure if the whole 30 is the same...but we did have grains. I am now obsessed with oatmeal and natural peanut butter! The hardest part for me was desserts...I love having an ice cream bar after dinner and that was definitely rough to give up. It also took a lot more time to meal plan and grocery shop.

@Mrs. High Heels: amino acids are different than coconut aminos. I find they taste nearly identical to sky sauce, whereas coconut aminos definitely have a different taste. I'm actually not really sure what the difference is though???

@Mrs. Bee: I usually gave them what I was eating along with some type of carb/grain like rice! I always worry that they'll be hungry if I withhold grain from them... but they loved roasted chicken, pureed soups (like butternut squash or cauliflower leek), ground turkey, and spaghetti squash doused in red sauce.

@Mrs. Pen: I used coconut aminos the last time I did it, but it's still not the same and so much more expensive! It's ok for the whole 30 since it's a short term thing, but feels hard to maintain as a long term solution.

A lot of the recipes I use call for quite a bit of soy sauce. I wish they sold coconut aminos in bigger bottles or bulk sizes. =/

It's in everything I eat, and all my favorite Korean sides and soups seem to have some element of soy in there. Dengjang chigae, kimchi chigae, miyeokguk, kbbq... wah.

I really want to do it esp after seeing the results some people have had. They just look great! Not only the losing weight part, but their skin and eyes just look brighter. I generally feel sluggish and I'm sure that my diet is a part of it. I just am scared to commit because I know it will take up a lot of time, and I don't want to just go back to bad habits after I'm done.

Are you interested in trying it? Anyone want to do it together?
