@cvbee: it's tough in the beginning because they will fall asleep no matter what. but stick to it! it's much easier to instill good sleeping habits when they're younger and you don't have to break bad habits. we just haven't been as consistent with olive's sleep like we were with charlie since we have two kids, and her naps/bedtime are often moved around.

@Mrs. Bee: I read The Baby Whisperer, so I'm going to try sleep training right from the start. They suggest never nursing to sleep, but rather nursing upon rising, then having activity time and putting the baby down again when it gets sleepy but not falling asleep in your arms. This I say at 37 +6 days pregnant. Ask me again in a month!

We didn't. But we just started having lo nap in her crib finally at 8 months. She used to need movement and we were going to try just picking her up and comforting her if she cried. But she never cried longer than a minute. Crazy!

oooooh yes, we will definitely be sleep training. soon, though? in another 7-ish weeks, is that soon? at 2.5 months, based on that chart mr. bee posted in the blog a while back. I've got to read up on some of the methods, though, & want to check out that book that he was talking about in the post.

I'm not (we already did!) but my friend just sleep-trained her third child (she sleep-trained all of them!) and she said that the heartache of the two nights of training is preventing her from having a fourth child (which she had planned on having).

because i am planning on sleep training olive in the next couple of weeks! i'm going to try some gentle methods with short caps on crying.

we used to be able to put her into the crib awake, but now she wants to be dead asleep and naps and bedtime are becoming increasingly difficult.

she just recently started flipping onto her tummy in the crib, so i'm just giving her some time to master flipping back over because she gets stuck and cries.

anyone planning on sleep training anytime soon?
