I compared the ingredients in Dreft vs Tide Free and they're exactly the same. And they're both made by the same company. Actually the label on the bottle is identical (minus the brand name) so I'm just assuming it's some sort of marketing ploy. We use Tide Free because it's cheaper than Dreft.

we use Dreft because we like the smell, but I wouldnt say its necessary. You could use a free & clear detergent just as easily (though where I live, those cost the same as the Dreft, so cost analysis doesnt come into play.) I wouldnt use a regular detergent because Liv has sensitive skin.. And I do wash EVERYTHING before I put it on her. I put a onesie on her once that hadnt been washed and she got an awful rash from it.

We use baby detergent on anything his skin may touch, especially because he has such sensitive skin. I even use it on my own sheets for when we all snuggle on our bed because my usual Tide irritated his eczema.

we use method detergent (peony blossom scent) for baby, kid, and adult clothes. never any sensitive skin issues here! and i admit to sometimes not washing after it's new, but i definitely try to as much as i can.

I use free and clear detergents for RJ just in case. He doesn't have any skin issues but he does have dry skin in the winters so I don't want to risk anything.

I tried to wash ours in the free and clear as well, since I didn't want to buy two different detergents, but our clothes got too smelly too quick! We need the fragrance!! Hehe. With RJ's stuff we wash after every wear, but we wear things twice or three times, so I do our laundry separately.

We use Dropps for everything because it is CD safe. We bought a TON when it was on sale and I had coupons, so I think we will be using it for the next few years (yes we got that much).

I use free and clear or sensitive detergents. My skin doesn't like all the gunk in detergents so I assumed my LO probably wouldn't react well either. I did wash all her baby clothes first because of the chemicals they are sometimes treated with.

I dont know much about the detergent but I would definitely wash all clothes before wearing. I even do that with my clothes. I have worked in retail and sometimes the warehouse conditions are pretty dusty and dirty, plus the clothes sometimes fall on the floor etc.. and people buy them and then return them, so its always good to wash any garment before wearing.

We've recently started using Soap Nuts which are all-natural soaping nuts. We use it for all our laundry now and I really like them. I found them when I was researching baby-friendly detergents.
I prefer to wash all clothes before wearing them because, like @looch said, you never know how they've been stored/transported before getting to the shelf at the store!

We bought (what seems like) a lifetime's supply of Country Save because it was cloth-diaper-friendly, and so we use that on everything now.
I don't wash everything before he wears it. I feel like maybe I did at first? But now I don't care.

I use a sensitive detergent for all of our clothes, it was too complicated to keep separate bottles.

I wash everything before we wear it, no matter who it is for. Just think of the places where the clothing was made, how it was shipped, where it was stored, etc.

I use Charlies Soap all of the time now because I cloth diaper & don't want any build up of other detergents rubbing off onto our diapers causing repelling issues, etc. I've heard some complaints that it doesn't make the clothes as clean but I haven't had any issues.

I like to use baby detergent, just because baby's skin is so soft and sensitive. I'll probably use it until she's a toddler. And I always wash anything that's going to be touching her skin for a while, like clothes, blankets, bibs, etc. before she uses/wears it.

Is it a must to use baby detergent for all baby items? When can you start to use regular detergent? Also, do you have to wash everything before using it on baby (clothing) if so, for how long as well?
