It was very painful while it happened but it is also the only pain I have "forgotten" about.

ETA: I didn't have any pain medication at all during labor and delivery.

hm, short term and intensity, yes, but long term and over all feeling horrible, recovering from getting my tonsils removed was worse. i was out of it for 2 weeks, couldn't eat and sick to my stomach. birth i will do again, but that i don't think i could (and thank God there's only one set!)

No way. I have chronic, terrible, huge kidney stones. I'm convinced there's no greater pain in the world. Like can't think, can't talk, throw up, pass out pain.

No. I would do my labour 10 times over if I NEVER had to do my recovery again. Recovery from birth was the WORST pain I've ever had for weeks and months after.

No. This thread is making me glad I had an epidural. It was not even as bad as the worst cramps I have had. I have had a lot of non-serious things that have hurt worse, I have a very low pain tolerance.

I think my kidney stone was worse than giving birth! But admittedly I had a fabulous epidural and several redoses...and when it wore off at 10cm I cried like a baby and made them give me more drugs before I pushed her head out...so maybe it's a tie? :)

Recovering was worse for me then the actual birth. However, I was induced and honestly never felt any bad contractions. I didn' t even know I was having them unless I read the monitor thing. I had an epi and foley bulbs. When LO was crowning/ring of fire I did scream and I'm not looking forward to THAT again but it was such a short period of time that I remember it but dont' really remember it..... The abundant bleeding and pain while using the restroom for 2 weeks PP was wayyy worse for me and I had a fairly easy recovery! But I remember being in tears just wanting to be able to use the restroom normally again!!!

No I think when I was having back spasms and my back locked up on me was more painful then giving birth because I got stuck on the floor and couldn't move I even cried and I think a bad tooth ache is worst then labor too and I had a natural birth so I can say it definitely wasn't as bad as every one said and I expected. I have a high pain thrush hold though

I think its a tie between childbirth with no epi and waking up from my 2 knee surgeries before I got some pain meds. The thing with having a baby is that the pain goes away almost immediately but it takes a long time to heal.after surgery. I'd take another unmedicated birth over surgery any day.

Yes, it was absolutely awful. But at the same level of pain- my 30+ stitches got wickedly infected 2 days postpartum, and the ER doctor had to do an internal exam. THAT, to this day, remains the worst pain of all.

@Mama Bird: Same here. I had a toothache that was so painful that I had to go to the ER. That hurt worse than giving birth. I had to get morphine in the butt to even touch that pain. I did get an epidural but only for the last hour since I felt like I couldn't breathe. I'd have asked for an epidural in my face if it would have fixed my toothache.

Absolutely. I've had kidney stones before, and they were pretty horrific, too, until I popped some pills and fell into a sedated haze. So I can't say they were more painful. I've also had a couple very painful migraines. Had those gone on for 36 hours, like my labor did, they might win out.

Most definitely.

I passed two kidney stones with no pain medication in my first trimester and everyone said, "Oh, so you're prepared for childbirth now!" HAHAHAHAHA. No. And I never even made it to pushing (emergency c-section), so I'm just talking contractions.

This seems to be something that just really varies from person to person, because some of the things I see people comparing to their childbirth pain, or saying those things were worse than their childbirth pain, are things that I have experienced and for me contractions were a thousand times worse.

Initial breastfeeding with an inverted nipple hurt the worst for me. I guess I didn't do enough research but I wasn't expecting LO to be tearing tissue to get my nipple out. So much screaming, cursing and crying for weeks until I gave up. That was after 51 hours of unmedicated back labor.

I had an induced labor with cervidil, a foley bulb, and pitocin. My water broke on its own which amped up my (back labor) contractions to every 2 minutes. I ended up getting an epidural and then an eventual c-section.

For me labor was not the most painful thing I've been through. Honestly for me, the UTIs I've had have been worse (but I get them really bad). And also breastfeeding has (sometimes) been more painful than contractions. I have cried through many nursing sessions out of pain-- but never cried during labor. (But my bf journey has sucked more than most)

I've had more acute pain with my bladder disorder. And I've had a lower grade pain that was much longer lasting (months) and that is hard to deal with in it's own way. But birth is the only thing that has made me scream in pain. I do feel like I am starting fo forget already. It was weird his much pain of the first birth I started to re remember right before my second.

Contractions were some of the most painful moments of my life. But I felt so normal in between them that it doesn't strike me as the most painful thing ever. But I think it was.
ETA: The most painful moment of my life was my doctor with literally her whole forearm inside of me trying to turn my sunny side up daughter. Oh. my. god.
I did get horrifically burnt in a tanning bed when I was a teenager and that was pain all over my body for days and I had no break from it, so I think that takes the cake.

No but i only made it to a 4 before epidural and eventually c section.
I had Pitocin induced contractions but nothing compared to the hospital visit I had a week before where my stomach was cramping up and having sharp pains in my side, then contracting underneath it. I screamed and wailed through every contraction until it eased off. Pitocin induction was NOTHING compared to that.
