I make a big deal out of it. I think it's only fair because DH is always good to me on mother's day. I asked my mom if we should make reservations for dinner that night (we're going out with my parents) and she said no, father's day isn't as popular as mother's day so it won't be a big deal. I thought that was weird!

I don't think either are a hug edeal in my house. Mother's Day is right around both of our birthdays and wedding anniversary, and Father's Day is right next to DD's birthday. For Mother's Day, I just got cards from DH/the kids; for Father's Day my husband is also getting a cake, but that's because he mentioned his craving for ice cream cake the other day. :) Otherwise both holidays are very lowkey for us.

With my parents, it's the same - my brother and I always treat them to lunch. BUT I'm not sure it will be the same with Hubs and me. I want to celebrate Mother's Day and do something nice for me, but Hubs doesn't care about holidays like this, so I'm not sure how it will go with him.

It's only our second year and last year was rough but I plan to make it a big deal even if he doesn't want it to be! Dads should/deserve to be celebrated too!

I tend to feel like both holidays are 'Hallmark' holidays, and DH agrees, so we keep the celebration and associated expenses minimal. He got me an 'experience' gift this year that we can share, and so far I've made him a photo card (I use cards as a vehicle to print pics and we keep them!). I'll probably make him a steak on Sunday, too. ;)

I think you are right about Fathers Day, I have noticed that.

This year, since its our first Father's Day, I am making a pretty big deal of it. I have a whole day planned and a pretty awesome gift... I guess we'll see as the years go on how it evolves.

DH did really great for Mother's Day so I'm making it a big deal for him. This was our first year as parents so we may be more casual with both in years to come.

Yep!! We will celebrate the same way with my family.

At our house, probably bigger since I tend to do more for DH for holidays. I was a little disappointed with Mothers Day

It's our first experience of each this year and I hope to make it a big deal for DH but he isn't as excited about it as I was Mother's Day. I was so hyped up about finally being a mum and getting a card.... I think he's happy I told him he can buy himself a new iPod since it's Father's Day but he's defo not as giddy about the whole thing as I was.

Yup. If anything I am making it bigger for DH. We're going down to the IL's (as always) but I've got cute presents for him from A. The only thing w. Father's Day vs Mother's Day is the my birthday is always around there, so we'll definitely have more of a fuss around that day.

i'm not shy about telling dh these things and this year he did a great job for mothers day! albeit a week late ;) but super sweet!

Growing up it was the same for both. Went out for brunch and cards and gifts. My husband's family, however, didn't do any of that. They didn't even do cards for anything. My husband makes reservations at night for me on Mother's Day and I pretty much told him last year i'd prefer brunch. He made reservations again for dinner this year. :| I feel like dinner is at night towards the end of the day and everyone else has celebrated but us. Every family celebrates these holidays differently, but in our family I feel like it should be celebrated the same b/c we both do our share of things with our kids and both deserve to be celebrated. Now who does it better is another story. :P

Well this is our first year as parents. I hope to make it a big deal. But honestly part of my motivation is gone because my in laws basically invited themselves to visit that weekend and my husband didn't tell them no even though he and I previously agreed that they should find another weekend to come so we could celebrate together as our own little family.

It's pretty much the same for both holidays, just a different person being honored! We go out to brunch and the honoree gets a card from the kids (picked out and written by the other parent, as of now, of course) and a gift from the other parent.
