I can't believe I missed this post! Hilarious! lol!!

I'm much crunchier than most of the people I know personally, but less crunchy than an average HBer. I think there is a good balance here, and I'm glad to have the opportunity to learn all that I have from here.

I think we just have a diverse mix of crunchiness. That said, I'm pretty sure I'm crunchier than HB which is funny because I live in suuuuch a crunchy part of the country and am not at all compared to many people here.

I've always felt moderately crunchy IRL but definitely not even the average crunchiness of the average bee. DH doesn't think I'm crunchy at all . But judging from how most people are responding, it seems there are more "less than average crunchies" than it seems?

I guess I think HB is a little crunchy, but still very diverse. I live in SoCal and my SIL is about as crunchy as you can get so I'm never surprised by anything and I've seen all of it before.

I try to be as healthy and environmentally conscious as I can easily do. I would not feel comfortable giving birth outside of a hospital, I use disposables (but have done research on environmental impact and have found that CD is not much different because of the energy or washing/ water/ soap etc.), I love baby wearing but use a stroller too, I try to avoid toxic products, I want to give exclusive breast milk but can't right now...still trying.

I think HB has made me consider being more crunchy! I think our family is probably a little more crunchy than the average American one and HB probably contributed to that with ideas of things to try.

From a perspective of someone without a LO yet - I think HB is definitely making me want to be crunchier if that makes sense when it comes to baby related things in the future. Minus cloth diapering - I just don't think I can do that, but other than that I want to do all these crunchy things for my future baby!

Exactly. I don't think people here are adopting crunchy practices because they want to be trendy/cool/in vogue, but because they have become interested in the benefits by seeing it around them, and have chosen to emulate the ideas they find useful for their own family.

@Monkula: having grown up around true 70's crunchy, I agree that HB leans toward trendy-crunchy, which in my mind I'm calling "more educated." By that I mean people have learned about the benefits of baby wearing, breastfeeding and eating organic, local produce so they adopt those practices. Not the lifestyle crunchy like communal living, not owning razors and living off the land crunchy that I'm used it ;)

Hmmm, as a Mainer who belongs to an ultra-crunchy FB group, I'd say HB is not crunchy.

I'd classify HB as a more educated bunch whether that be formally educated or self-educated. But in general I get the feeling that it's a group who are focused on learning more and dong the best they can do for themselves and their families.

@Mrs. Train: oh you're nuts!! I only have 2 little ones and we live off takeout almost all week long. Uh ok it might have been that way when we just had 1. Or even before having the 1. Sigh. I need to cook more.

I'm not crunchy at all!! I think the crunchiest thing I do is buy organic baby food. And that's one crunchy step down from making your own baby food too. I guess I was crunchier as a SAHM since I exclusively breast fed? And I often have hairy legs but that's not crunchiness.. that's laziness...

but i'd say the blog is less crunchy... the gear posts, fancy birthday parties, and mini style posts seem to balance all that out.

I think I am a little more crunchy than the site but probably not by a ton. I agree with some thoughts others have pointed out, on a board like this people are probably looking for support for decisions that aren't as common in your community (even just tiny things) and my feeling is that the users here are pretty well educated and researched so they naturally will be exposed to more thoughts on child rearing and will try lots of things out and see what sticks. I have friends that aren't big researchers and just go with their gut or what there mom did which totally works but you can't try an ergo or blw if you have never heard of it.
