I would like to know, but in "handle-able" amounts. My parents are SUPER healthy freaks not only about food but exercise and (i.e., go to the gym practically every day, only eat organic, don't use chemicals like shampoo and dishwasher soap, I could go on and on...). My mom always tells me an earful about right/wrong food choices and sometimes it's just so overwhelming. There is just so much info out there and so much that says everything is bad for you...I figure just try my best with the simple foods I give to LO.

Depending on how poor someone’s diet is, I don’t think ignorance is bliss at all because you can’t eat mostly junk day in and day out without having serious health issues.

I don’t really research healthy eating much, to be honest. I just try to eat as cleanly and simply as possible because I figure the more “real” you eat, the better. And moderation is key too – I know McDonald’s French fries are in no way good for me, but sometimes I just really, really want some – so I have some! :)

I like to know. Ignorance is generally not something I strive for. Anyway most of the "bad" stuff - does someone have to tell you for you to realise it's "bad" for you? I mean generally it's fairly obvious! And it's only "bad" for you if you eat it, and foods like it, on a regular basis. I usually eat fairly healthy. I want to live to an old age and I am vain enough not to want to get fat.

@chopsuey119: yup I agree! My dad has a garden every year and it's our favorite time of year because of that! He actually does raise his own chickens. And he buys cows from an organic farm for butchering. So you can find ways to do that on your own too, just takes a little more effort.

@Andrea: My parents have hundreds of fruit trees on their "farm," a green house for veggies and they raise chickens!
The couple who run things killed a chicken and cooked it when DH and I went up to visit. -.- I was 20 weeks pregnant and couldn't eat it. :P
If you grow chickens and just raise them for eggs, you'll get all the essential amino acids you need! :D

@mrbee: I totally agree. That's my problem, I feel we can't trust the government at all - a lot of their info is revenue-driven. They started releasing those high fructose corn syrup commercials when people stopped buying those products, they were losing money!
I watched the documentary Fathead, which was showing how the documentary Supersize Me was inaccurate. It is so hard to know which information is correct or not.

I like to know some..and not others. I'm a massively picky eater, so sometimes what I don't know is better (as far as getting healthier things in, if that makes sense).

The other day a student in my grad program was going on and on about how aborted babies and old placentas are used in hair and beauty products..I know nothing about this, but asked her to stop talking about it please, and she wouldn't! Drove me up a wall. I unfortunately cannot afford Aveda, so why horrify me with stories about my cheapo Suave? Lol..I don't know how true any of that is, I apologize for thread-jacking!!

in regards to healthy-eating and nutrition, there is so much to know and learn. I love being as healthy as possible, and getting pregnant really jump-started me on the track to making better lifestyle choices and I've drastically changed my eating habits.

However, there are so many misconceptions concerning healthy eating; the FDA tells us one thing (those insane commercials that high fructose corn syrup is really no different from corn... say what?!), but the opposite is true.

I've been learning more and more about this stuff. And it's crazy how much there is to know. Fat is good, it's sugar that makes us fat. Eat healthy fats (butter is healthy), use only natural sweeteners (raw honey) etc...

However, some people I've come across say they avoid learning this type of stuff because they'd rather not know what's bad for them and just eat how they want to.

What is your opinion? Do you want to know EVERYTHING there is to know about eating healthy, or would you rather not know?
