Obviously every baby is different and you know your babe best, so take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

So the overall ounces look fine, especially if this is a formula fed baby, but going to four 7-ounce feedings a day at 10.5 weeks seems super early. I don't think my son was able to take that much until he was about 18-20 weeks old.

Dropping one of the naps is fine, but my thought is that she could also be waking early from her naps because she's going through a growth spurt. During those periods, you will have disruptions to their schedule because they wake up sooner to eat more often. In any case, 2 hours of waketime at that age seems really long.

Also, it seems like it would be better to set an earlier bedtime and consolidate your baby's sleep into longer stretches of night time sleep instead of keeping her up longer during the day.

Generally babies have shorter waketimes in the morning and their wakefulness extends as the day goes on, before settling into a long stretch of night sleep. If it were me, I would try to tweak the schedule to something like:

830am wake and feed
10am-12pm nap #1
12pm feed
130pm-330pm nap #2
330pm feed
5:30pm-ish nap #3 (catnap)
6:15pm-ish feed
8-8:30pm bedtime routine, top off feeding, then down for the night.

This will still keep 5 feedings a day, but you may have to adjust the ounces throughout the day. For instance, she may be hungry for 7oz first thing in the morning, but may only want 6oz for the 2nd and 3rd feedings, and then the last two feedings may be 5oz since they are spaced closer together. That would still get you 29oz total by bedtime and she'll be nice and full and ready to settle in for the night. By giving her a cat nap in the early evening and moving up bedtime, you may get her to extend her night sleep to 11-12 hours and fit in about 4-5 hours of nap during the day. That would get you in the 15-17 hour zone of total sleep in a 24 hour period that is supposed to be "ideal" for newborns.

@T.H.O.U.: Thanks for sharing :)

I'm not planning to reduce the ounces. In fact she has been eating more and more... from 25 ounces last week to 28 ounces this week. Her tummy seems to be able to accommodate more milk now, so I was thinking of feeding her 4 times (7 ounces per feed) instead of 5 times (5.5 ounces per feed).

I think at 3 months they definitely hit that stage of being more alert and not that sleepy little newborn. But they also start growing really fast!

I wouldn't reduce the ounces per day because that could mess up sleep (wake more for food) but stretching feedings out is fine.

Yes, I think my kids spent months 3-12 on mostly a 3 nap schedule.

Hi all the experienced moms, I was wondering if you could share your thoughts. I notice some changes of my 10.5-week old babies.

- A few days ago she started to sleep longer at night... approx. 10-11 hours.
- She has been eating more. Before she ate 25 ounces per day. But now she eats 28 ounces per day.
- She used to have 4 naps per day - 1.5 hours of wake up time and then 1.5 - 2 hours of nap. But now usually 2 of the naps are not that good - she refuses to nap or often wakes up early.

I'm thinking of adjusting her schedule to like this:
8:30 a.m.: Wake up, feed, play (fixed point)
10:30 a.m.: Begin first nap (2-hours) of the day
12:30 a.m.: Wake up, feed, play
2:30 p.m.: Begin second nap of the day
4:15 p.m.: Wake up, feed, play
6:15 p.m.: Begin third nap of the day
7:45 p.m.: Wake up, bedtime routine, feed
9:30 p.m.: Bedtime (fixed point)

Each feed will be 7 ounces (and yes she has started to eat 7 ounces already though not every feed).

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of reducing the no. of feeds to 4 feeds and no. of naps to 3 naps at around this age (close to 3 months). Thanks very much!
