@MrsMccarthy: Aw thanks for saying that. I honestly didn't realize that once a day was that bad! DD fell asleep having her bedtime bottle tonight and I just put her down in her crib, so I'm not sure how difficult it will be tomorrow, but I'm definitely going to try much harder to limit her tylenol...probably write it down on our calendar. :)

@PrincessBaby: The differences always confuse me, still. LOL

I LOVE the Seattle's Children's Fever page! I keep it bookmarked & use it to reference for when P is sick.
http://www.seattlechildrens.org/medical-conditions/symptom-index/fever/

Lavender oil AND Peppermint oil are both good for fevers & when they aren't feeling well too! I would put a drop of Lavender oil in the corner or P's crib when she isn't feeling well & it helps her sleep!

Ok so ped said that it's ok to give tylenol as needed as long as the dose/amt is what is recommended for LO age/weight. I told her about the weeks I've been giving it at least once a day and she didnt seem concerned, and said just to make sure it's no more than every 4hrs at the dose I'm using...

She said H's fever, while not that high, was too high for normal teething, so she must be fighting off a little something. Ped said I can go ahead and give tylenol to her every 4 hours for the next couple of days or can wait to see if her fever climbs and give it to her then, whatever I'd rather.

She also said that low to mid 99s on the rectal thermometer is a normal temp. So I feel super dumb I thought that was a low grade fever!!!! Either way, I never gave her tylenol if she acted ok- just when she fussed and pulled at her ears a lot. She said that 98.6 on an underarm temp is normal and you add a degree for accuracy. I knew that about non-rectal temps but never put it all together.

Soooo I gave her Tylenol at 2 and I'll give it to her again at bedtime. No guilt.

@googly-eyes: don't feel guilty for not knowing sweet momma! You just wanted your baby out of pain. I wish pediatricians were more specific about things like this. They make children's Tylenol seem like its just sugar water and not a drug

Plus this week I've given it twice in the daytime, she was yelling and miserable and other things werent working, poor baby. The daytime Tylenol is pretty unusual though... Probably only done that 2-4 times ever.

This post makes me feel so guilty! I have given Tylenol (although according to weight a lower dose as rec by the pedi) more nights than not the last like at least six weeks. Dd's teeth come in excruciatingly slow. For example one that cut six weeks ago is still maybe half out? And I have seen the same 3 white bumps for at least two weeks. Some nights without Tylenol she just stays up chewing her pacis or I give her a teether or Sophie and fussing a lot. :(. Gonna have to find a different way to get her to sleep I guess.

@PrincessBaby: Hope she's feeling better - at least you'll have a chance to ask your ped the question! I'm sure they would rather you didn't give tylenol every day but I think the bigger concern is the amount of tylenol on any one day. You don't want to give more than the liver can process at once.

I only give Tylenol on occasions of fever or severe teething crying but I don't think you did any damage so long as you tone it down from here on out.

Let us know what your ped says.

I only give B medication when absolutely necessary. When LO has fevers I only give him before bedtime to allow him to sleep. I don't medicate during the day because doctor says the fever is actually killing whatever it is that causing B to be sick, so bringing down the fever prolongs the amount of time he is sick.

You guys, thank you all so much for your advice:). For whatever reason, her temp shot up to 101 today. So we are actually headed to the ped right now (they are open 7 days a week- LOVE) to rule out an ear infection or something. I'm going to talk to her about this and see what she recommends & I'll let you guys know!!

We do it a few nights in a row when she is teething. We asked our ped about it and he said as long as she wasn't exceeding the daily limits, it was fine.

Teething tablets, gels, etc did NOTHING for us.

I would try alternative methods (Hylands, chamomile tea depending on baby's age, etc.). Personally, I wouldn't give medication that much. I think moving forward perhaps you can try other things? You can always talk to your pediatrician about it, too.

So far with teething we've done homeopathic methods and they worked, we'll see what happens when her molars come in!

Sorry, it is tough trying to type on my phone with the baby on my lap. Haha. I do not give Tylenol or Motrin if she's just fussing, only at night if she's inconsolable and nothing else has worked.

Also - I used the teething tablets but they didn't seem to do much. The hyland's have belladonna, but the orajel brand does not. We have only used 1 dose of Camilia so I can't really speak to how well it works, unfortunately. Only thing that seems to help is a dose of Motrin when needed..my ped said no orajel either.

@Navy_Mommy: I took that as a warning to the parents who use it for a high fever for longer than that - as in, have the doctor check things out if your child still has something going on. I did ask my ped, who said one dose at night during the days or week the tooth was cutting was ok.

I wouldn't do it more than 3 days in a row...maybe try boiron Camilla? It was recommended to me on here and is homeopathic. I personally would only give Tylenol if Lo was screaming...for fussiness I try doing cold foods in a mesh feeder or just distracting him which usually works.

Eta that I wouldn't at all be worried about having given it to her up til now...and I'd probably be more loose with it at bedtime than during the day, when more distractions are available.

I recently found out acetaminophen is a class C pregnancy drug (it can/will cause liver damage in fetuses) so I don't like using it at. all! We really try homeopathic remedies for pain & fever before using Tylenol.

@sorrycharlie: doesn't it say on the bottle to contact a doctor if the problem persists for more than like 3 days? I take that as don't continue using this for more than 3 consecutive days without a doctor's orders. I don't think a doctor would support the long term use of pain killers.
